Waterford native Brian McCartan’s output as The Cassanova Wave thus far, has predominantly opted toward the deliciously upbeat and sugar-sweet side of electronic pop. Having grown tired of the ‘electro-pop’ tag bestowed upon his music, McCartan decided to push the boundaries of his sound somewhat – in his own words, “try something that was still very much “The Casanova Wave”, but with a bit more of a rough and live sound.”
The first release since his self-titled debut, ‘New Sensation’ , is a collaboration with the brilliant Conor Deasy of Biggles Flys Again, taken from a forthcoming EP, Sundown Yellow Moon. It sounds more mature and grounded, less happy-go-lucky while retaining much of the bright, cheery and alluring elements which made his debut so endearing, albeit less obvious, subtly interwoven amid the various nuances on show. ‘New Sensation’ is an altogether pleasurable piece of bobbing, well rounded and subtle pop. A very interesting move, one that was probably destined to happen and will do no harm at all in enhancing his reputation. It also adds some food for thought, what’s next?
Back to the here and now, and the immediate future. The new EP, Sundown Yellow Moon, features four new tracks including ‘New Sensation’ and is released officially on Friday September 12th. You can pre-order it here.
