Django Django – Skies Over Cairo (Adrian Sherwood On U Sound Dub)

A few weeks back I attempted to do Django Django‘s marvelous debut LP the justice it so desperately deserves.

One thing which I neglected to mention was how remixable so many of the songs sound. On that note,  here is Adrian Sherwood’s dub rerub of ‘Skies Over Cairo’. Retaining the undeniable groove, he has fleshed out the middle eastern allusions, introduced a splash of dub beats and effects to produce a marvelous piece of music in it’s own right!

‘Skies Over Cairo (Adrian Sherwood On U Sound Dub)’ is taken from the Storm 7″ vinyl, out now. Listen to it below.

Download | REID – Miami

Since first coming to prominence just over a year ago, Cork producer REID, has been one of the brightest talents to emerge from an impressive and vibrant Irish electronic scene.

REID’s latest track ‘Miami’ continues this trend, showcasing his distinctive style fantastically well. ‘Miami’ washes over you, inducing an atmospheric dreamlike state before a rising blend of murmuring and tropical beats take hold. According to the man himself, this is the last original track until his next EP is finished.

In other REID related news; his remix of ‘Even Though’ will feature on a Kitsuné collaboration EP from  Giraffage and XXYYXX, along with Teen DazeSlow Magic and The One AM Radio.

You can download ‘Miami’ for free below.

(Video) Simian Mobile Disco – Put Your Hands Together

Simian Mobile Disco are releasing their brand new album Unpatterns on May 14th via Wichita Recordings.

The duo have unveiled the video for their latest single, ‘Put Your Hands Together’. Taken from the forthcoming third record, it is seven minutes of mesmerizing and gently hypnotic electronic sounds. I really liked SMD’s last effort Temporary Pleasure so let’s hope the the quality of the third album is on a par with it.

Check the track & video below, it is directed and animated by Hans Lo for ISO studios.

Elliphant – ‘Tekkno Scene’

Elliphant popped up on the radar a few weeks back with two quality tracks, one being ‘TeKKno Scene (Feat. Adam Kanyama)’.

She has now dropped a video for ‘TeKKno Scene (Feat. Adam Kanyama)’, a mix of blips, beaps and off-beat tribal drum skips – I can’t get enough of it. To put it simply: this is a tune to dance to!

Ginola – Way Harsh EP

The ever impressive Dublin punk three-piece Ginola have returned with a brand new EP, Way Harsh.

The EP is another highly charged hardcore punk affair, what this trio do best and they know what they’re doing. Barely stretching to 10 minutes they waste absolutely no time in battering your consciousness with a barrage of unadulterated noise. As bizarre as it might sound, Ginola have managed to eek out even more noise and a harsher sound than before.

Check out the video for ’14 Hormonal Years’ too, a strange juxtaposition between a nice day out at the zoo and their destructive sound. You can download Way Harsh from Quarter Inch Collective here (name your price).

Miaoux Miaoux – ‘Autopilot’ + Album News

After a series of self-released records and shows across England and Scotland, Miaoux Miaoux has finally announced the release of his debut album, Light of the North, due on June 11th.

The 26-year-old Glasgow based producer makes hugely impressive spacey electronica with indie leanings. Fluid and uplifting, these sounds evoke moods a million miles from dreary rain soaked city of its birth. ‘Aut0pilot’ is a taste of things to come and it continues this trend, a beautiful composition of tranquility and beaming brightness.

This guys’ got a whole groove of his own, his debut album can’t come quick enough. Light of the North is out June 11th via Chemikal Underground.

Cloud Nothings released one of the albums of the year so far, the must-listen Attack On Memory

Taken from said album, ‘Stay Useless’ is a short, sharp blast scuzzy post-punk indie. It is released with this surreal animated video to coincided with their massive tour across Europe. Unfortunately there’s no Irish date but maybe that will change, I certainly hope so.

BarryGruff Presents #5: The North Sea w/ Death In The Sickroom :: Flanagan’s Newbridge :: April 26th

So, it’s gig #5 for ‘BarryGruff’ Presents’. This Thursday (April 26th) we’ve got The North Sea & Death In The Sickroom, entry is FREE as always and judging by the previous gigs, this is going to be a great night!

Dublin 5 piece The North Sea made quite an impression over the past 12 months which has seen them playing shows across Ireland and the UK including Indiependence, Knockanstockan, Whelan’s One To Watch and supporting Whipping Boy. They are currently prepping the release of their brand new EP and having already witnessed comparisons to The Wedding Present, The Stone Roses and The Smiths.

Accompanying them on the bill are fellow Dubliners Death In The Sickroom, whose own happy-go-lucky jingle-jangle indie-pop is worthy of huge praise too.

Over the past few months we have been lucky to witness some or Ireland brightest emerging musical talents and this will be no different. The show takes place in Flanagan’s, Newbridge on Thursday, April 26th and kicks off at 8.30pm. More info & Facebook event here.

Limnetic Villains – ‘Shut The Door (An Unintelligible Yarn)’

Limnetic Villains, the musical guise of Kildare based musician Vincent Lillis, is probably the most prolific artist I’ve encountered in some time (seriously, this guy turns out a huge amount of quality music at a mere whim, nor does he doesn’t sacrifice quantity for quality either).

In keeping with his fecund tendencies he has kindly produced a special one off track for the readers of BarryGruff with Record Store Day tomorrow. ‘Shut The Door (An Unintelligible Yarn)’ sees him continue to embrace his predilection for darkly shady electronics and burning guitars filtered through an eerily murky mix of psychedelic rock and krautrock influences. Similarities with Primal Scream, Death In Vegas or David Holmes are hard to avoid but hardly a bad thing, are they?

Limnetic Villains also released an excellent 20 track free album (yes, 20 track) entitled Depleted earlier in the year, from which there are also two cuts below. You can download Depleted for FREE from here.

Skip Cloud – Clouds EP

Skip Cloud (formerly Skp) is a chiptune artist from Belfast who makes music using Nintendo Gameboys. Although he’s been making some fine 8-bit electro beats for a few years now, Clouds is his first ‘proper’ release.

There is something wholly seductive about these 8-bit sounds of Clouds. It is more than a nostalgia buzz or a mere novelty, Skip Cloud has produced an aural feast of beats from the downtempo ‘157 Miles’ to the high energy ‘Warrior’, ‘Houston’ and ‘Wavehunter’. I might be biased. After all, I’m a bit of a sucker for this 8-bit sound, most likely down to wasting away my younger days playing computer games. That said, it is a thoroughly enjoyable, fun and engaging listen.

You can pick up the excellent Clouds EP for a co0l £3 from bandcamp.
