New White Denim Album ‘Last Days of Summer’ For Free

Last Day of Summer is the aptly-titled new record from Austin’s White Denim released last week. The band have been busy in the studio this summer laying tracks for their un-titled third studio album, this from the same session serves as a stopgap until album number three arrives.

Musically Last Day of Summer is a bit brighter, breezier and mellower than what has gone before. It was released via their website for free or you can send a donation to help the band pay for the cost of upcoming tours and the third album.

Download the album here.

Babe, Terror – ‘Summertime Our League’

Brazilian artist Babe, Terror is set to release a number of 12″ EPs on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. It will see his unconventional charms finally introduced to listeners on this side of the Atlantic.

First up is ‘Summertime Our League’ a decidedly eery, off the wall yet perfectly cool and crisp piece music but if dream like spectral chills isn’t your bag there’s some excellent remixes on offer from Appleblim and Four Tet. The later re-imagination is outstanding, intricately introducing a sense of warmth, heavy beats and lush textures while retaining the eery vibes.

Summertime Our League is followed by Haval in October and includes remixes from Memory Tapes & Duke Dumont.

Two Charming Men – ‘Transmission Set’ 25 Sept

As mentioned last week Two Charming Men were at Transmission in Dublin’s Button Factory on Saturday night. I finally managed to drag my lazy arse to one of their live shows and it didn’t disappoint one bit, dropping a superb tight set jammed full of house/electro which sent the crowd nuts.

For those of you unlucky to miss the night you can hear it now. Keep an eye out for these guys, big things may be on the horizon.

The tracklisting is after the jump.

The video for first single, ‘Run With The Boys’ from Carl Barât‘s self-titled debut solo album released on October 4th. It’s extremely catchy and I still haven’t gotten sick of it, a good sign.

Edit: Two Irish dates just announced, Belfast’s The Stiff Kitten on Sunday November 14th & Dublin’s Academy 2 on November 15th. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 29th September at 9am.

F.O.O.L – ‘We Are Not French EP’

Swedish duo F.O.O.L (Fuck Our Ordinary Lives) are beginning to impress more and more with each release, latest EP We’re Not French is no different. They’ve already ably proven their ability to drop flamboyant, vicious, loud and dirty electro, ‘We Are Not French’ is all about the heavy hitting synths and a wicked and bouncing bassline.

The EP comes with a string of seriously tasty remixes – The Owl Vision remix is a particular massive tune, I’d love to hear this one dropped in a live set it’s sure to knock the stuffing out of you.

We’re Not French EP is out now.

The Radio Dept. – The New Improved Hypocrisy

Swedish trio The Radio Dept. are apparently not ones for shying away from their left-wing socialist leanings so it was probably no surprise in their native land they decided to take aim at Sweden’s conservative government in the run up to last weeks general elections (they dropped seats in case you’re interested but worryingly the far right unfortunately gained some ground).

This one’s been on repeat for weeks, I only realized it had evaded making a worthy appearance on the blog today. Bluntly put ‘The New Improved Hypocrisy’ is warm, fuzzy and instantly likable shoegazey indie with intelligent and insightful lyrics, nuf said.

Unbeknown to me these guys have been around for quite sometime so it might be a smart move to track down some of their back catalogue.

Enjoy your weekend.
