Introducing: The Shh | Sweet effervescent pop songs

The summer months can always be enhanced by a suitable musical companion for basking in the glorious sunshine.

Boy/girl duo The Shh, stake their claim for this year’s summer soundtrack with their debut EP, The Burning LoveAlison Galea & Ian Schranz have dreamt up some sweetly effervescent indie-pop songs, with the subtitles of gorgeous boy-girl vocal interplay at its sugary core. ‘So Over’ is as fuzzy as it gets, revolving around a grungy riff, it hints at The Kills meets Pulp’s ‘Something Changed’. We are then led into beautiful, melodic and inoffensive pop songs, ‘All Things With Love’, ‘Burning Love’ and ‘Summer’.

Honestly it will be difficult to find something so effortlessly nice, relaxing and extremely listenable this summer. So, so good.

The Shh’s Burning Love EP is released on April 11th but you can stream it in full here.

Black Dice – ‘Pigs’

The chaotic sounds of Black Dice are quite a difficult experience to explain. To put it mildly this is experimental, manic and distorted electronic music with a punk twist.

‘Pigs’ is the first track from the forthcoming LP and there is a nightmarish quality to this churning noise-synth beast, complete with a squelchy bassline and driven by pounding, relentless drums. The video is no less unnerving, a collection of psychoactive audio-visual weirdness.

‘Pigs’ is the first track taken from their forthcoming album, Mr. Impossible, available digitally on 2nd April

Maxïmo Park – ‘The National Health’ + Album News

Maxïmo Park are preparing to release their fourth studio album, The National Health, this summer.

It is the follow-up to 2009’s Quicken The Heart, which was no where near the mighty standards set by their previous two albums. The new record aims to redress the balance too as frontman Paul Smith explains “We’re in a global recession and everyone is being bombarded with bouncy, happy music,” adding “The nation is out of control and the record is about taking back control, and being a force for change in your own life.

The first taster from the album is first single, ‘The National Health’, a frantic and ferocious high energy track. It certainly sounds as though the brief hiatus has helped them recapture their groove. This is Maxïmo Park at their rousing best.

The National Health is released June 11th and you can check out the album’s title track below.

Introducing: Devin | Pure unadulterated rock & roll from NYC

Do you like your music to rock out hard and fast? Well then, New York’s Devin is just the man for you.

The Brooklyn musician dishes out pure unadulterated rock & roll that sounds passionate and genuine. It is a volatile cocktail of rhythm & blues, soul, punk and raw energy topped off with screechy punk-tinged vocals.

His latest single ‘Masochist’ sums up what he’s all about, a lightning-quick dash of pounding drums, driving guitars and pop melodies merged with a brash, punk attitude. The same can be said for the energetic ‘Thing On My Mind’ while ‘Black and Blue’ is a slower, ballad-like song, showing there is scope for a softer less frantic side.

The vintage vibe may hark back to the days of the likes of Iggy Pop and the New York Dolls but this is music that will get even the most stubborn up and moving, pure and simple!

Devin will release his debut album Romancing on April 30th via No Evil.

Miles Kane – ‘First Of My Kind’

Miles Kane is quite the class act, something he proved with his debut record, Colour of the Trap, last year.

He is continuing his intrepid adventures through a spooky ’60s parallel universe with ‘First Of My Kind’, the lead song brand new EP (for Record Store Day on April 21). Kane’s characteristic charismatic charm, cheek and swagger is oozing from ‘First Of My Kind’ but it is the flamboyant, sumptuous brass that really excites.

A perfect three-minute pop song, check it below.

Download | DJ Tu-Ki’s – ‘Just A Ride’ mix

Four-time Irish DMC champion and all round turntable wizard, DJ Tu-Ki is back with his first full mix since Pre:Seed just over two years ago.

Just A Ride is astonishing good, like we’re surprised? It is a little more club orientated than it’s predecessor which is still on frequent rotation two years later. Just A Ride began life as an elaborate intro a la Pre:Seed before taking some sage advice from Bill Hicks, he decided sure its ‘Just A Ride’. The mixtape is made up of tracks he was unable to stop playing/mixing over the last year or so. The artwork is from Killian Walsh and the video trailer is by Diarmuid Moloney, Niall O’ Brien and Tu-Ki.

This mix is just so good, don’t take my word for it, download it below now.

(Video) Turrentine Jones – Slam The Door

Mancunian’s Turrentine Jones have, by all accounts, been causing quite a stir in their native Manchester on the back of several self-released demos.

The bands first single proper, ‘Slam The Door’, sees a melding of a slew of rock and blues influences combine with swirling organ, rapid-fire drumming and lead singer Neville’s distinctive croaky drawl. What we are left with is a rousing sound of effortless swagger, a kind of bastard child of The Stones and The Animals.

‘Slam The Door’ is released as the A-side of Le Debut and the video is below.

Zombie Disco Squad | Righteous Sound (Jesse Rose Edit)

Having caused quite a stir since bursting on the scene back in 2006, London duo, Zombie Disco Squad, are readying the release of their long awaited debut album.

Before all that they have released the single ‘Righteous Sound’, featuring ’80s soul legend Omar. However, it is Jesse Rose’s edit which intrigues most. A flair for house music shines through from the original as Omar’s soulful vocals takes centre stage, sliding over a succession of tough beats and rhythms. A top tune which is comparable in many ways to some of Groove Armada’s early big hitters.

Brains is out on Made To Play on 28th May.

Introducing: Sad Soul Circus | Cork based chilled electronica

The list of prodigious electronica artists emerging from Ireland over the past year and a half is damn impressive.

Sad Soul Circus, 19 year old Cork City based Finn Yowell, is another talent to be added to list. He has created something of rather unique quality. The music is a chilled out, alluring array of fresh and tranquil sounds. So far there are two wonderful tracks, both of which have been on constant rotation since last week. ‘Waves’ flows beautifully, a refreshing vibe washing over you while the blissful ‘Lost Ideas’ skips gently by, along  a choppy bass-heavy rhythm.

Sad Soul Circus is currently in the process of producing an 8 track album.

Veronica Falls – My Heart Beats

I belatedly discovered Veronica Falls‘ wonderful self-titled debut album toward the end of last year and my, what an impressive find.

Not wasting any time, the band have unveiled a new video and single, ‘My Heart Beats’, the first new offering since the aforementioned debut. It is a full-on indie pop assault, full of rhythmic charm, heavenly harmonies and cheerful melodies. Utterly joyous and compulsive. If you liked the album, you will love this.

The video was made by Army Of Kids and ‘My Heart Beats’ / ‘Killing Time’ is released on 7″, Monday 26th March.
