Introducing: Parakeet | Yuck’s Mariko Doi’s side-project

When she’s not playing bass in Yuck, Mariko Doi is busy with her own fuzzed-up ’90s-style project Parakeet

How does it differs from Yuck? Well, it is a much harder sound of wailing guitars and crunchy bass, while Mariko Doi’s vocals are a sublime addition. Parakeet’s first single ‘Tomorrow’ is a swirling guitar jam while their latest track, ‘Shonen Hearts’, is a fuzzed-up roar with a sugary slice of ’90s style alt-pop at it’s core.

No word on a album yet, but at this juncture I wouldn’t say no.

26-year-old Glasgow based producer Miaoux Miaoux is gearing up for the release of his debut album, Light of the North, on June 11th.

He has impressed a lot with a series of bright electronica tracks with indie leanings. In keeping with this, he has preceded the album’s release with ‘Better For Now’, an excellent slice of uplifting electro-pop. There is quite a Hot Chip feel to this one. Anyway, check out the track and Gary Roberts directed video above.

Tom Williams & The Boat will release their new single ‘Too Young’ on June 11th through Wire Boat Recordings/Moshi Moshi Records.

‘Too Young’ is the third single taken from the current album Teenage Blood. An uplifting, buoyant track, ‘Too Young’ embraces a gentler tone, lead by a catchy guitar riff and a wonderful blend of lilting harmonies and melody. The video is a self-produced illustrated clip in the vein of that ’80s A-Ha tune.

Digitalism – ‘Simply Dead’

Digitalism‘s last album I Love You Dude was something of a let down. While possessing some great individual tracks, it lacked the energy, freshness and punch of their 2007 debut, Idealism.

The Hamburg duo are to release of their entry in the iconic DJ Kicks mix series toward the end of June. They have unveiled ‘Simply Dead’, a brand new track from the mix which sounds as though they have the wind firmly in their sails once more. Beginning slowly, ‘Simply Dead’ builds up into a distortion frenzy of heavy, powerful electro – it’s a banger in every sense of the word.

Digitalism’s DJ Kicks album is released on June 25th.
