When she’s not playing bass in Yuck, Mariko Doi is busy with her own fuzzed-up ’90s-style project Parakeet.
How does it differs from Yuck? Well, it is a much harder sound of wailing guitars and crunchy bass, while Mariko Doi’s vocals are a sublime addition. Parakeet’s first single ‘Tomorrow’ is a swirling guitar jam while their latest track, ‘Shonen Hearts’, is a fuzzed-up roar with a sugary slice of ’90s style alt-pop at it’s core.
No word on a album yet, but at this juncture I wouldn’t say no.
