Queen of Jeans – ‘Moody’

queen-of-jeans by Bob Sweeney

Philadelphia’s Queen of Jeans and their brand of retro, garagey, indie left an indelible mark upon their introduction, close to a year ago.

Since then, they’ve been busy gigging around the US, released a couple of singles, a debut EP and added a fourth member to their crew. The now quartet have just released a new video for ‘Moody’ – shot and directed by Bob Sweeney – it is one of the finest moments from their aforementioned debut EP. A timely reminder of Queen of Jeans’ charms, ‘Moody’ is a six-minute sweeping, broody and mildly psychedelic mix of retro charm, set to enchant you with an enthralling, dramatic and, well, moody combination of lush harmonies twangy guitars, waltzing percussion and haunting, stirring melodies.

You can check out the video for ‘Moody’ below, and their debut EP is here, while you’re at it – it does not disappoint.

Queen of Jeans – ‘Rollerdyke’

queenofjeans-620x413

Philadelphia trio Queen of Jeans and their brand of retro, garagey, indie left an indelible mark upon their introduction with debut single ‘Dance (Get Off Your Ass)’ last month.

The trio are back courtesy of ‘Rollerdyke’, the second single from their upcoming self-titled EP. Displaying all the layered harmonies, ’60s girl group influences and charm of its predecessor, ‘Rollerdyke’ comes with a distinctly grittier lo-fi edge, as their rich, textured melodic and harmonious pop is run through a gauntlet of reverb, feedback and crashing cymbals. Warm, wonderful, upbeat and punchy, ‘Rollerdyke’ is a simply marvellous psych-indebted coming together of twangy, lo-fi and surf rock sounds. A slightly different take and a very fine elaboration of their style.

Queen of Jeans’ self-titled EP is out on January 22nd via Third Uncle Records and Super Fan 99 (UK), on both vinyl & cassette. For now, you can listen to ‘Rollerdyke’ below, and you can also get Queen of Jeans’ debut single ‘Dance (Get Off Your Ass)’ from Bandcamp gratis.

Queen Of Jeans – Dance (Get Off Your Ass)

0005906329_10

Queen of Jeans are Philadelphia trio – Miriam Devora, Matheson Glass and Nina Scotto – who specialize in retro, garagey, indie indebted to girl groups of the ’50s and ’60s.

This aforementioned penchant is patently obvious from their debut single, ‘Dance (Get Off Your Ass)’; a cracker by any gauge. A woozy, alluring and mirage inducing haze of lush, heavenly harmonies, catchy hooks, and undulating rumbling drums over a laissez-faire, shimmering guitar. These lackadaisical, joyous and carefree meanderings splendidly pierced by Devora’s mellifluous-cooing-to-glass-shatteringly-powerful vocal performance, which is achieved at break-neck speed. Rich, textured melodic and harmonious pop at it’s very finest, and completely and utterly beautiful. ‘Dance (Get Off Your Ass)’ is a marvellous and as strong an introduction to a band that you’re likely to witness. More please.

You can stream ‘Dance (Get Off Your Ass)’ below and, it can be yours, all you got to do is head over to bandcamp and ‘name your price’.
