London-based quartet Novella have shared details of their second album, the follow-up to their 2015 debut Land.

Change of State – recorded at producer James Hoare’s (Ultimate Painting, Veronica Falls) bedroom studio – will be released on 17th February via Sinderlyn Records. The group have signalled their return by unleashing lead single and title track, ‘Change Of State’. Equal parts ’60s Girl Group, catchy indie-pop and urgent krauty-psych, it opens with a gently wooing ’60s jangle, before quickly morphing into a spiralling cyclone of glorious Krautrock indebted psychedelia. Amid the dazzle of shimmering guitars, gentle melodies, energetic bursts and motorik thrust, the hypnotic, alluring vocals soar above- as close to perfection as you can get. ‘Change Of State’ serves not just as a title but is said to be inspired by the social and political changes occurring before them throughout 2016. We’ll find out next year what the full package sounds like, for now we’ve just got this sublime start to be getting on with.

Change Of State is out February 17th via Sinderlyn Records. Listen to the title track below.

Novella – ‘Land Gone’

SamHiscox7-608x404

London outfit Novella will finally release their debut album Land on May 11th via Sinderlyn, and accompanying this rather exciting news is a brand new single, ‘Land Gone’.

‘Land Gone’ is an exciting intro to what we might expect which demonstrates both their appeal, and how their sound has grown. ‘Land Gone’ is a fast-paced and ever morphing, sprawling and expansive blend of shoegazey krautrock. It flourishing with dazzling array of shimmering guitars, motorik rhythms, cosmic harmonies and heavenly vocals , before eventually swelling and climaxing with a monstrous guitar outro and crashing percussion. It’s polished but not overly so, as to stay true to their trademark sound, while expanding into richer, fuller territory with the addition of Krautrock and electronic elements to their well honed off-kilter pysch-pop.

Check out ‘Land Gone’ below and perhaps stick May 11th in the diary. You could also check their 2013 EP, Murmurs, it was rather good.

Novella – ‘Follow’

novella-686x437

Hazy pop trio, Novella released their latest EP Murmurs last week. Recorded in a one day session with Jack Cooper of Mazes fame, it contains four tracks of grungy, DIY sounding pop rock with psych inspired big sounds, deep melodies and lush vocals.

If there was ever one track to capture what this London all-girl outfit are about, it’s ‘Follow’. Opening with a protracted two-minute instrumental before building up to its climax with lush vocal, interwoven repetitive guitar riffs and tidy drum beats. With a debut album in the works for next year, imagine what Novella can do over the course of a whole album, if this is what they are capable of with just four tracks. These three girls are definitely ones to keep an eye out for in the new year.

You can check ‘Follow’ out below or try the full Murmurs experience on Spotify. It’s out now on cassette via Italian Beach Babes.
