BarryGruff Playlist November 2015

BGNV15

Your regular monthly round up all the blog action, in a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured throughout the month.

November was another busy one, with introductions to A.S. Fanning, exmagician & New Cardinals. There were excellent new singles/EPs from Avid Walker, Anderson, Public Service Broadcasting, Ulrika Spacek, Daniel Avery, CaStLeS, David Harks & Manor. And we had tunes from Globelamp, MMOTHS, Coves, Hinds & Tuff Love ahead of their respective, new and forthcoming albums.

Oh, and there were two new episodes of ‘Millions Like Us’, Justin Beats & I’s new music podcast extravaganza for 604now (if you missed them, check ’em here). You can also subscribe to ‘Millions Like Us’ on iTunes & Podcast Republic or find us on Facebook & Twitter.

Well then, that’s that for another month – listen to BarryGruff’s November 2015 playlist below. Enjoy!

Daniel Avery – ‘Sensation’

Daniel-Avery-Gullick-Clear-press-shot

It has been two years since Daniel Avery released his sensational debut Drone Logic; fusing house, techno and more left field electronics into one of the finest records in recent years.

The UK producer is back with his first new material (proper, there was a remix series) in the shape of ‘Sensation / Clear’, out through Phantasy later this month. Avery has brought our wait for new material to an end in some style. It’s dark themes show a hint of lineage from his Drone Logic days, but his sound has clearly developed in the two years since his debut album release. ‘Sensation’ is a slow-building, minimal number drifting toward the driving depths of techno with a deft percussive touch breaking through swathes of noise, synth and pulsating atmosphere. It is complex, dynamic, and dark, and more importantly, it has us wishing for more. On that front, there’s nothing concrete on a new album but watch this space.

‘Sensation / Clear’ is out on 12” on November 27th. You can listen to ‘Sensation’ in full below.

Factory Floor – ‘How You Say (Daniel Avery Remix)’

danielavery-1

London-based producer Daniel Avery, already wowed us with his excellent debut LP Drone Logic, belated discovery over the festive period. It’s a big old fashioned dance album, in the sense that it revolves around no nonsense synths with house/techno beats in a similar way to Underworld or Leftfield in their pomp, and is nothing short of amazing.

A couple of weeks back, he released this sublime new remix of ‘How You Say’ by Factory Floor, who’s own debut of motorik, bone-rattling analog magic from last year has plenty of it’s own spectacular moments. On this eight-plus-minute remix, Avery applies a foggy-hazy touch to transform the skeletal original into a more lush and blissful track.

‘How You Say (Daniel Avery Remix)’ can be streamed in full below, before its release on April 14th through DFA. Factory Floor also have a string of North American tour dates, if you’re on that side of the pond, check them here
