Maida Rose – ‘Every Day Is Blue’

Maida Rose is dream-pop pairing of Roos Meijer and Javièr den Leeuw from Dutch seaside city the Hague.

Having introduced themselves with ‘Harmony of Heartache’ and ‘Where Do We Go’, the pair are back with another wonderful single, ‘Every Day Is Blue’. It is woozy, richly melodic and marked by a pang of wistful melancholy and dreamy tones.

Smooth, breathy vocals cruise calmly over a gentle strum, shimmering guitar and gently waltzing groove as rich melodic allure pours from the lush, dreamy atmosphere. Like it’s predecessors, ‘Every Day Is Blue’ is oozing with heartfelt nostalgia, nostalgic for a dream that has passed but it has a lovely, human optimism, and leaves a warm wistful glow and a feeling that all things – good, bad or indifferent – eventually pass. Utterly beautiful stuff once again.

Gushh – ‘Tired, All The Time’

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Gushh – solo project of Bristol-based artist Richard Stockley – throughout 2021 as we have drip fed a series of epic and beautiful cuts that will make the bones of a forthcoming EP.

Stockley looks after everything involved – composing, recording, mixing, mastering and artwork – as Gushh revolves around the concept of looping elements and building tracks whilst telling a narrative through old-timey samples from forgotten pieces of media.


‘Tired, All The Time’ is the latest lifted from a forthcoming EP, and is yet another marvelous example of the wonderful wizardry weaved by Gushh. Guitars twinkle and shimmer, bright riffs twinkle atop multi-textured fluttering layers of cosmic brilliance while we are wooed into a woozy stupor by a hypnotic groove and spellbinding charm. Sweeping by with an air of cinematic grandeur, it builds and builds with an undercurrent of euphoria toward a triumphant climax of epic proportions. Yet another mesmerising track from Gushh.

Omaloma – ‘Cool ac yn Rad’

Welsh outfit Omaloma has etched out a rather special place on the musical landscape with blissful, spacey psych-pop; a statement vehemently laid out by a slew of stellar singles, 2020 debut album Swish and Roedd EP from earlier this year.

With that in mind, it is fine news indeed that Omaloma has released a new single ‘Cool ac yn Rad’ (Cool and Rad) – and happy to report it is unsurprisingly divine. Written by George Amor, performed by Amor and Llŷr Parim, the latter on recording and producing duties, it marks a shift away from the 80s synth sounds of Roedd. ‘Cool ac yn Rad’ bobs along a meandering groove carried along an undulating bassline as we are hypnotized with lush sugar spun melodies that mingle with gentle guitar and piano arrangement as Amor’s mellow, laid-back vocals soothe the soul. A charming and utterly, utterly divine earworm – this is Omaloma at their very, very best.

Sakura & Aloa Input – ‘Another Rainbow’

Hong Kong via London to Vienna, musician and songwriter Sakura has joined forces with Neo-Krautrock outfit Aloa Input for new single ‘Another Rainbow’; and together this collaboration delights and enthralls with a sweetly hypnotic and spaced-out dreamer.

Driven by a gently undulating and hypnotic rhythmic groove, Sakura’s captivating, cool and hushed vocals snake above while guitars shimmer, flicker and twang amid the hazy world of lush and dreamy atmospheric splendor. It is sweet, cosmic and lavish psych-infused dream-pop perfection that dazzles and hypnotizes, grows and seeps into your senses with each and every listen, and leaving you better for it.

The Bug Club – ‘The Fixer’

The Bug Club are the creative trio of Sam Willmett (guitar/vocals), Tilly Harris (bass/vocals) and Dan Matthew (drums), from the little-known rock n’ roll hotbed of Caldicot, Monmouthshire.

Together they craft tight-knit, catchy and memorable tunes; sometimes blistering, fiery and fierce and other times, melodic and playfully addictive, and always fizzing with humour and riffs-a-plenty – attributes on display in abundance on their brilliant debut EP Launching Moondream One which was released earlier in the summer.

Hot on the heels of their debut EP comes new single ‘The Fixer’ – a blistering bolt of fizzed-up garage-rock – lifted from their forthcoming new mini-album ‘Pure Particles’ due in November. Propelled by an unrelenting stomping beat and electrifying energy, guitars buzz as meaty  raucous riffs roar amid lovely layers of warm fuzz and lashings of distortion as Willmet & Harris deliver brilliant dual vocals. ‘The Fixer’ finds a sweet spot between melodic and muscular; an utterly addictive scuzzy jam hooks you could hang your hat on.

Yet another brilliant and utterly addictive jam from The Bug Club and the mini-album is one to really look forward to.

Gushh – ‘Here We Are Still’

Gushh is the solo project of Bristol-based artist Richard Stockley who looks after everything involved; composing, recording, mixing, mastering and artwork.

Gushh revolves around the concept of looping elements and building tracks up whilst telling a narrative through old-timey samples from forgotten pieces of media and having introduced the project with ‘Drifting Through the Emptiness of Space’ back in June, Stockley has returned with new single ‘Here We Are Still’. Propelled by a hypnotic cosmic groove, steady beats build and build whisking us through a misty haze of psychedelic and ambient textures while bright, clipped riffs spark alongside shimmering guitars. Oozing with a cosmic aura, ‘Here We Are Still’ builds and builds to a triumphant explosion of epic proportions, marked with a real sense of awe, wonder and hope. Magnificent once again from Gushh!

Hot Mustard – ‘Window Seat’

Hot Mustard are instrumental funky psych soul loving duo composed of artist/producer and guitarist Jack Powell and bassist Nick Carusos, together with trumpeter Jordan Mclean (Antibalas) and Dave “Smoota” Smith (TV On The Radio) on trombone; theirs in an eclectic mash-up of smooth beats and full-bodied horn sounds.

Drawing influence from mid/late 1960’s and early 1970’s funk and soul, the building blocks of first generation boom bap hip-hop, Hot Mustard will bring their debut album, Mother Sauce, into the world next month -and ahead of which, they are sharing seductive single ‘Window Seat’. It is a super smooth jam that saunters through the sunburned haze with a groove-heavy bassline and languid drum beat. Plucky guitars twang and chime amid the sun-kissed shimmering which is all topped off triumphantly by brilliantly warm all-brass horns. An undeniably hypnotic groover, it’s chilled sun-kissed vibes and seductive swagger will leave an indelible mark on ones soul.

Fresh yet familiar, ‘Window Seat’ offers a perfect view of what to expect from their debut album, and plenty of reasons to get excited.

Late Runner – ‘Nothing’s Real Anymore’

Late Runner is the solo project of Danish musician / singer-songwriter Asger Tarpgaard who, also known for his work with Superheroes, introduced his solo wares with debut single ‘Spring’ back in April.

Having just released debut album Nothing’s Real Anymore – available from August 20 via Crunchy Flog – Tarpgaard has lifted the record’s title track as new single. ‘Nothing’s Real Anymore’ is a rich, warm and beautifully bittersweet song. A sentimental song that gently waltzes along bringing to mind the finest 60s pop and early ’70s singer-songwriting as warm guitars strum atop a jaunty beat, sinuous melodies and sumptuous tones while Tarpgaard’s soothing, warmth and inviting vocals glide above, forging an unforgettable union. This is ever so endearing and you will be all the better for basking in the beautiful warm glow of ‘Nothing’s Real Anymore’.

Sons Of Zöku – ‘Sacred’

Sons Of Zöku are Adelaide-based psych-rock outfit comprised of Portuguese-born Ricardo Da Silva and Ica Quintela, and Australian-born Jordan Buck, Oscar Ellery, and Eddie Hannemann.

They have been making waves in their native Australia (surely the most reliable source of modern psych) for a while with their free-flowing, energetic and colourful explorations and are now readying the release of their debut album and ahead of which, ‘Sacred’ is the first single lifted from the record.

In keeping with tradition, ‘Sacred’ draws influences from across the globe crafting a hypnotic haze of colourful kaleidoscopic sounds, wholly their own. Propelled by a lush, swirling groove and meandering rhythm it is adorned with languid guitars, sitar flourishes and dreamy, hushed vocals that drift melodically above the warm blanket of dreamy fuzz. Sons Of Zöku have struck gold once again and with a debut album on the horizon, it is a timely reminder of their prowess – hopefully the wait isn’t too long.

koleżanka – ‘In A Meeting’

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, guitarist, and producer koleżanka (aka Kristina Moore) is readying the release of her debut LP under this moniker.

koleżanka’s sound is difficult to box-off; there is a flair for offbeat folk, indie and flourishes of pop while co-existing in a space with an equal propensity for psych – but it is captivating and magical, and somewhat hypnotic and playful.

Ahead of the release of Place Is, on July 30 via Bar/None, koleżanka has lifted another single from the record called ‘In A Meeting’, which demonstrates all those aforementioned attributes in abundance. Opening with gentle keys (Casio-esque), soft pattering beats and bubbling bassline. providing a beautiful backdrop for Moore’s cooing melody and lush and beautiful vocals to thrive before swathes of psych enter the fray with frazzled synth and colourful instrumental breakdowns. it is both playful and vulnerable, strange yet comforting, and like the composite sounds, in lesser hands would sound jarring but in Moore’s it is a revelation. ‘In A Meeting’ is weaved together with a boundless versatility, and the moments of musical whimsy probably wouldn’t resonate so much were it not for the moments of melodic sweetness.
