Brandon Romano is acoustic indie folk/pop stylist from the US Midwest.

Today’s curio and Romano’s latest single is a sweet, melodic and hazy four-minute psych-tinged sojourn into the mind of a forgotten spaceman. Constructed around a vibrant acoustic strum, Romano utilises a combination of hook, heart and melody which is all draped with his intuitive songwriting and storytelling ability. It is an infectious psych-folk earworm, of contagious arrangements and fluid melody, effortlessly bridging the gap between deeply rich acoustic folk, psych and pure, irresistible pop-craft that reveals Romano a master of style.

The chill of winter briefly reared its ugly head here at the weekend, causing a fair bit of chaos in its wake but High Tides – the hazy synth duo of Warren Kroll & Steven Lutes – provide a different, more welcome type of chill.

From the coastal shores of the mind, by way of the Midwest, the pair have shared ‘Summer Reflections’, the latest single lifted from their forthcoming album Paradise Daze, a gorgeous, summery slice of chillwave, dripping with warmth and sunshine. Bringing all the elegant, chilled and blissfully euphoric vibes, it flits between a mild Balearic tone, shimmering sun-kissed synths and crisp, fresh an frosty elegance. This is tranquil escapism to a place of calmness, warmth and haziness, with a definite late night feel.

You can listen to ‘Summer Reflections’ below & their forthcoming album Paradise Daze, which will be released on March 8th via Rad Cult.

London Producer & DJ Just Geo has joined forces with fellow Londoner, rapper and songwriter, Warrs McFreeman for latest single ‘Stick To My Guns’.

With Just Geo drawing influences from a broad array of sounds, from old school Garage to retro video game soundtracks and Warrs McFreeman noted for a willingness to explore and experiment, while maintaining a distinctive Grime influenced sound – ‘Stick To My Guns’ is a perfectly paired union. Gritty yet melodic, ‘Stick To My Guns’ struts alone a flurry of tough, taught quickfire beats interspersed with samples and siren blasts. Its tempo is matched by on point vocals from McFreeman; slick wordplay served with a rat-a-tat-tat energy and delivered with precision. Gritty, edgy and taught, yet melodic Grime that is passionate, perfectly packaged and delivered.

Toronto-based indie trio Laughed The Boy specialise in exploring a genuine love of unpretentious 90’s nostalgia.

Comprised of brothers Chris and Sean Panacci and Brennan Hrehoruk, the trio’s output thus far has been joyous and littered with easy going tunes filled with catchy melodies and fuzzy guitar and the high point so far is undoubtedly their resplendent debut LP Here is Fine. The trio are back with new single ‘Post Card’ which not only marks the return of Laughed the Boy but signals the completion of their second LP. It is a charming, cheerful and bouncy bout of sweetly melodic indie-pop with a warm jangle of guitar, super sweet melodies, soft vocals and dreamy vibes, all coated in a mild coat of light fuzz. ‘Post Card’ is an irresistible delight of infectious, easygoing and breezy indie-pop delight – all is looking rather well for the new album.

Simen Mitlid – ‘Tell Me Everything’

simen-mitlid

Simen Mitlid is a precociously talented singer-songwriter hailing from the woodlands of Os, Norway, crafting lush, Nordic indie-folk a la contemporaries like Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene and Patrick Watson.

Mitlid is preparing to release a follow-up to his wonderfully charming 2017 debut LP, Everything is the Same this year and having already treated us to the beautiful ‘Saturdays’, Mitlid has shared a second single ‘Tell Me Everything’. It is a beautiful, bright and colourful folk song buoyed by a perky mood, irresistible melody and marked by an optimism and warm inviting glow. Amid the glimmer, there is a mild undercurrent of melancholy due to Mitlid’s rich, emotive and tender vocal delivery. ‘Tell Me Everything’ is bright, buoyant, intimate and touching all at once – it is an absolute treasure.

Nothing concrete on the new album as yet – title, release date etc. – but for now, sit tight and enjoy ‘Tell Me Everything’.

Lucille Furs – ‘All Flowers Before Her’

1544119687111

LA-via-Chicago psych-pop quintet Lucille Furs are gearing up to release their new album Another Land in March – ahead of which, they have shared another single ‘All Flowers Before Her’.

Lucille Furs are pretty shameless about their obsession with 1960s pop, rock and psych and ‘All Flowers Before Her’ finds them further mining the era for inspiration – incl. The Beatles, Kinks, Zombies and The Small Faces – and this is in now way a bad thing. ‘All Flowers Before Her’ is a rich, cascading and colourful tune that draws from the combined hues of a stomping groove, infectious buoyant melody, hazy guitar jangle and wonderful backing harmonies, which are all coated in a nice warm layer of fuzz – and presided over by warm, hushed and reverbed vocals. There is even space for a fuzz-fueled guitar romp through the flashback fields of psychedelia’s golden age – this is a wonderfully warm, easy on the ear and jangley delight.

Listen to ‘All Flowers Before Her’ below now & new album Another Land will be released on March 15th.
