San Diego foursome WILD WILD WETS – Mike Turi (Vocals / Synth), Taejon Romanik (Guitar), Yegor Mackey (Bass) & Marco Piro (Drums) – are predominantly preoccupied with fuzzed-up distortion fuelled, ’60s inspired garage/psych rock-outs; as their debut Prisom will attest to.

Amid the storm of rock & roll distortion and fuzz, a melting pot of sounds, including touches of surf, post-punk, kraut & grunge, are threaded together to create their own vital force. ‘May Games’ is the latest single lifted from the record and it is one of its finest and most memorable moments. Drawing heavily from a palatable Echo and the Bunnymen influence, it whisks up a swirl of ethereal tones, fuzz, reverberation and all things psychedelic. Mesmerising and intoxicating in equal measure, ‘May Games’ burns bright, spurred on with shimmering surge of ’80s, Bunnymen-esque guitar work, joined by some ’90s shoegaze and indie guitar jangle, and wrapped up nicely in a light, fuzzy haze of mild psychedelia.

ilu – ‘Graffiti Hen Ewrop’

Welsh label Libertino Records has fast become a reliable mine of intriguing and altogether wonderful sounds and we’ve struck gold once again with their latest release from ilu.

Dividing their time recording between Tallinn, Estonia and rural Wales, Ilu are mysterious Welsh Psych/Krautrock newcomers crafting epic, spacey, interstellar hymns – of Spiritualized proportions. Backing up these lofty claims is stunning debut single ‘Graffiti Hen Ewrop’. Propelled along Krautrock, motoric grooves ‘Graffiti Hen Ewrop’, spacey synths and heavenly harmonies envelop spiky post-punk guitars and bass rumbles which coalesces into one coherent, unstoppable sound. Sizzling danceable grooves are woven tightly into their mammoth tones and grinding churn, which is all punctuated with a beautiful yet melancholic sense of longing. As far as debut singles go, they don’t come much bigger or better than ‘Graffiti Hen Ewrop’; an immaculate palate of sonics, sounds and textures

Ilu’s debut single ‘Graffiti Hen Ewrop’ is out on August 3rd – check it out below.

Honey Moon – ‘(Why Do You Think You’re So) Special?’

London-based jangle-pop foursome Honey Moon have shared their brand new single ‘(Why Do You Think You’re So) Special?’; their first release on Manchester label Heist or Hit.

Self-described as a “60s-styled patchwork of a tune, quilting together a bittersweet tale of romantic longing”, ‘(Why Do You Think You’re So) Special?’ might be the most lush and perfect pop song of the year. A gorgeous throwback to ’50s/’60s doo-wop and pop, it initially simmers from its laid-back loungey origins of languid guitars and lax basslines, which undulate behind vocalist Jack Slater Chandler’s proficient falsetto. With each passing moment, tripping along a lively beat, ‘(Why Do You Think You’re So) Special?’ grows in stature and scale, as it swells to climax with a spectacular flourish of brass for a grandiose finale. Before you know it, the song implodes in the grandest and most spectacular supernova!

This is grand, dreamy and escapist pop perfection in its purest form – enjoy!

Bristol’s Ead Wood (aka Ed Soles) & The Heights (aka South London band Margot), have just released new single ‘Ignored’ – and oh my, it is a doozy!

‘Ignored’ is the first track lifted from their new EP titled Beige Dreams and is a bright and breezy three and a half minutes of pristine guitar-pop that rolls along with infectious ease. Opening with The Primitives-esque sparkle, it builds upon enchanting psych-pop origins through a lush blend of sinuous off-kilter melodies, irresistible guitar-jangle and sighing, bittersweet vocals with its lilting chorus to a woozy, laid-back and spaced-out sojourn midway through – before seeing us out as we began with bright and energetic guitar-pop. In truth, it is hard not to be taken by this wonderful slice of guitar-pop perfection. An allure that is charming, enchanting and altogether impossible to resist.

The track is the first from a new EP titled Beige Dreams. Check out ‘Ignored’ below.
