Self-professed purveyors “sludgepop” and “grungegaze”, Terra Pines is an Australian trio comprised of Kelly Hanlon (guitar/vocals), Owen Dengate (guitar/vocals) and Cameron Smith (drums/vocals).

Playful genre descriptions aside, the Aussie outfit make powerful, fuzz-filled guitar tunes and just this month, have released their self-titled album. The album is fronted by rambunctious new single ‘Dream Big’; a perfect intro and one that will have you scooting straight over to the new album. An absolutely brilliant three minutes of fuzzed-up-noise, ‘Dream Big’ is tempered by her lilting vocals, while gritty guitars, heavy reverberating drums and rocking a crunchy, fuzz-heavy riff that rips through the track. For all the powerhouse pieces of post punk, shoegaze and grunge, there is a subtle seam of dreampop running through its core, eking out a near perfect space between sludge, fuzz and hazy pop.

Tune into ‘Dream Big’ below and if it is too your liking, why not check out Terra Pines’ debut record here.

Basement Revolver – ‘Baby’

32191331_2268383069846282_7291458436733075456_n

Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canadian trio Basement Revolver are gearing up for the release of their debut LP, Heavy Eyes.

Slated for release on August 24 through Sonic Unyon, Basement Revolver’s debut promises 12 tracks of 90’s infused indie-rock and using lead single ‘Baby’ as a gauge, the record looks rather encouraging to say the least. A power brand of 90’s inspired indie-rock laced with layers of dulcet reverb, ‘Baby’ makes for compelling listening. It is dripping in atmospherics and smouldering with sadness, dissatisfaction and heartfelt longing, owing much to Hurn’s mournful delivery of sorrowful lyrics. Despite the doleful air, ‘Baby’ never flounders, swelling with a resolute anthemic power, and Hurn’s soar, far above. As compelling an intro as you’re likely to get – magnificent!

Listen to ‘Baby’ below now and keep an eye out for their debut LP.

Melting Order – ‘Walk Slow’

Melting Order is an Italian artist and music producer based in Boston who’s elegant compositions don’t adhere to genre boxes, preferring to indulge his creativity in exploration of genres, sounds and cross-pollination.

Melting Order’s latest release is ‘Walk Slow’ – and it is a humdinger. Opening with some choice whirring noises and some choice beeps and boops. It is when the vocals enter the fray, ‘Walk Slow’ really begins to take its shape. Around the minute mark it sparkles, or perhaps flickers, into a bouncy, synth-led piece, while remaining decidedly mellow but swaggering along with dulcet vocals (a la King Krule) and psych-tones. An innovative and exquisitely crafted exploration that rewards again and again with repeated listens.

THYLA – ‘Blame’

21752065_1491994050892406_4793205896994561001_n

Brighton foursome THYLA have steadily been building a rep for rousing indie-rock barnstormers and super new single ‘Blame’, thankfully does little to dispel this assertion.

Pairing biting pop hooks to soaring stellar indie rock riff, THYLA flit between grunge and dream-pop and charging forward with a thunderous bassline, ‘Blame’ packs quite a punch straight from the off. This thundering three-minutes is propelled onward on the back of crashing cymbals, energetic riffs and crisp guitar lines but Millie Duthie’s vocals – powerful, hard-hitting and self-aware – are equal to it all as they soar above; the icing on the cake. An all too alluring mix of power and precision, and the right amount of catchy hook.

Tune in now.

The Garrys – ‘Makeout at the Drive-in’

artworks-000337249470-wh0xpx-original

The Garrys are sisters trio from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada who conjure up surfy, garage-pop with a dash of doo-wop.

Their new single ‘Makeout at the Drive-In’ is a shimmering slice of surf pop, with a hazy evocative atmosphere and melancholic longing at the heart of The Garry’s reverb-laden opus. Framed by quivering guitar licks, twangs and hazy fuzz, it has a mysterious downbeat vibe that conspire to create a somewhat eerie sound. For all this laid-back, mellow and sleepy undulating wonder, the trio’s true power comes from the entwined, sublime surfy, vocal harmonies of the three singers; delightful, pristine and utterly irresistible. With a touch of wistful, youthful yearning, ‘Makeout at the Drive-in’ is a sparkling introduction to The Garrys’ sound.

The Garrys release their new single ‘Makeout at the Drive-In’ on May 13 through Grey Records.

The single is lifted from the trio’s latest album, Surf Manitou, which comes highly recommended also, especially if you like reverb-laden, harmonious surfy goodness. Listen to it here.

Introducing: Laughed The Boy

15781126_633470303522993_5023890762920789835_n

Laughed The Boy are Toronto-based indie trio comprised of brothers Chris and Sean Panacci and Brennan Hrehoruk.

Laughed The Boy began life as a vehicle for Chris Panacci to explore a love of unpretentious 90’s nostalgia. His brother Sean was quickly recruited before hitting the studio with the final piece of the puzzle set in place with the addition of bassist Brennan Hrehoruk. The result of the trio’s early endeavours was their debut LP Here is Fine; littered with easy going tunes filled with catchy melodies and fuzzy guitars, it came out in February of last year.

Laughed the Boy have kicked off what looks set to be a busy year of touring and recording a second album, with new single ‘Halfway’. The single takes the band’s signature blend of catchy melodies and fuzzy guitar, swirls it together with jangly guitar hooks and breezy vocal harmonies for an infectious blend of loose, laidback, pop-leaning slackerish indie.

You can listen to new single ‘Halfway’ and ‘Indifferent’ (a taster from their debut LP) below; with the album itself, right here.

Melts – ‘Skyward’

melts-multi-1

What do you get when you bring ex-members of Ghost Estates, The Things, The Mighty Stef and The North Sea? The answer, Melts.

Melts are a freshly formed psych-leaning rock band from Dublin, comprised of members from some of the finest bands to emerge from the Capital in the last decade. With just a few select number of shows in their short existence they set off for the Meadow in Wicklow to record their debut single with Irish duo The Deaf Brothers. The result is ‘Skyward’, the band’s first single, is propelled by a hypnotically repetitive post-punk guitar and synth line flux. It is a tune that doesn’t mess about, it means business with its relentless, powerful drive and meaty, bassline groove chugging ever onward, burrowing inside inside your consciousness. As far as opening introductions go, they don’t come much bigger or better than this.

Amber Arcades Announces New Album; Shares ‘Simple Song’

unnamed_573

Dutch musician Annelotte De Graaf aka Amber Arcades will release new album European Heartbreak on September 28th via Heavenly Recordings.

De Graaf quite rightly won widespread acclaim with her sparkling 2016 debut LP, Fading Lines, which not only earmarked Amber Arcades as potent psych-pop prospect but also delivered one of the albums of the year.

For its follow up, European Heartbreak, Amber Arcades has teamed up with Chris Cohen from Deerhoof, and ramping up the anticipation, is a trilogy of videos telling a modern European (love) story, touching on various thoughts and feelings that inspired the new record – the latest taste comes in the form of ‘Simple Song’, marking an evolution from her debut. It danders along broad guitars, gentle synth melodies and warm, swooning swells of delightful brass, all the while, De Graaf ‘s honeyed vocal remains contemplative until rising above a sea of guitar fuzz and layers of mist with the climaxing chorus. Sublime, divine psych-pop – ‘Simple Song’ finds Amber Arcades in fine form and evolving the superlative sound of her wonderful debut.

European Heartbreak is out on September 28th via Heavenly Recordings. For now, check out ‘Simple Song’ below.

The Pink Dust is an alternative rock band formed by Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas and Cliff Littlefield in 2014, the same year their self-titled debut album was released.

Together, the Pink Dust create a big, full-blooded indie-rock sound, propelled by winding, mind bending and meaty riffs that tread where others dare not. Their latest single ‘Mary Weather’ is a raucous, fuzz-filled two minutes forty five of screeching riffs, pummelling drums and crashing symbol, and this freewheeling frenzy tempered perfectly by the melodic and hushed vocals above. There are touches of The Vines, Royal Blood and The Rascals in parts – the former’s ability to make super catchy but rockin’ tunes is especially prevalent.

‘Mary Weather’ is lifted from the duo’s third album, Ming, which was released on April 5, 2018.

If you haven’t done so already, you can check out the mighty ‘Mary Weather’ now, just hit play below.

Luke Redmond – ‘Isola’

24862109_1993662730851730_6755355713918221874_n

Originally from Kerry, Luke Redmond is an Irish musician and multi-instrumentalist musician now making a life for himself in Portugal.

Swapping one set of mountains in South Kerry for those of the Algarvian variety, they have their similarities and differences, the freedom, remoteness and isolation has shaped both his life and sound. Inspired by ’60s music and movies, contemporary psych and shoegaze, Redmond’s own creations are mellow, expansive and broadly cinematic explorations permeated by the remoteness of his mountainous locale; a la his new single ‘Isola’. A gentle instrumental marriage of soothing guitars, light percussion and mellow undulations, its dreamy, relaxing cinematic vibe plays like rippling waves lapping at your feet. ‘Isola’ is a joy, relaxing and refreshing in its breezy brilliance.

You can check out ‘Isola’ below and there is more where that came from over here.
