Download | Kaleid – Sticker

We have checked in with young Newbridge producer Kaleid (Aka Peter Fleming) a number of times in recent months and he has continually impressed at each time of asking.

Kaleid continues this trend with ‘Sticker’, another slick electronic production. While it is a little more down tempo than previous tracks, the standard remains the same, extremely high. There is clearly a definite depth and scope to this young man’s talent

You can download ‘Sticker’ below and his debut EP, Clarence via bandcamp.

(Video) Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves Of Destiny – Atlas

Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves Of Destiny‘s debut album, Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose, is a little underwhelming, in a hit and miss sort of way. It does contain a number of absolute gems though, ‘Atlas’ like ‘Sweet Tooth Bird‘ before it, is a case in point. A spiky indie pop song, with the breezy vocals soaring above galloping instrumentation, ‘Atlas’ will find a place in your heart.

Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose is out now.

Arp Attack – Follow The Rhythm

‘Follow The Rhythm’ is the debut single from Chichester based electro indie outfit Arp Attack.

‘Follow The Rhythm’ is a dance friendly summery tune with rays of synth, bubbly notes, giddy percussion and sweet vocals shining bright. This one has been on constant rotation and Arp Attack will undoubtedly brighten up your day.

Give ‘Follow The Rhythm’ a listen below and download ‘Lucky Man’, released as part of the package on April 30th.

Danny Brown – ‘Grown Up’

Detroit rapper Danny Brown has teamed with Scion A/V for his new single ‘Grown Up’, an irresistible and gorgeous track.

It is both stylish and slick as Brown’s trip down memory lane, looking back on his younger days, is accompanied by snappy snares and pulsing piano. His 2011 album XXX apparently received quite a lot of praise and made many a best-of year-end lists. Time for to check out the record I think.

Listen to ‘Grown Up’ below or download it from ScionAV website.

Lightships – Two Lines (Raf Daddy Remix)

Lightships, the work of Gerard Love (of Teenage Fanclub fame), released their debut album Electric Cables last week.

Hot on its heels is ‘Two Lines’, a beautiful piece of work in its own right but Raf Daddy (The 2 Bears) enriches the track without pulling it apart completely. The percussion is more pronounced and prominent, vocals chopped and an assortment of instruments add energy to the electronic haze. A blissful piece of electro pop which brings to mind the sparkle of Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’.

Electric Cables is out now on Domino.

Dublin based four-piece punk rock ensemble Girl Band, are releasing their debut single ‘In My Head’ on April 10th via Any Other City Records.

It feels strange to say ‘debut’ as we’ve already witnessed a smattering of thunderous tracks online. Rest assured, ‘In My Head’ treads a similar path and is a another grunting racket of high octane punk rock.

Girl Band celebrate the release with a launch in The Grand Social on Tuesday, April 10th, with support from Spies.

Adultrock – Loves EP

When he’s not busy with We Are Losers, the mercurial Gavin Elsted is perched behind a laptop composing top notch electronic productions.

Working under the title of Adultrock he has been knocking out quite a few quality original tracks and remixes, the nine-track Loves EP  is the first collection gathered together and released in one package. It is a dazzling collection of bright, dreamy and chilled electronic pop with ace ambient beats and chilled-out groove – this is music to nod your head along to.

Loves will be released as a limited cassette on Long Lost Records on Record Store Day or you can download it for free from Bandcamp or show your appreciation by giving a few quid for his work.

The Cast Of Cheers – ‘Animal’ + Album News

The Cast Of Cheers have been busy prepping the release of their second album Family, steadily stoking the fires of interest and building the hype over the last few months.

‘Family’ caused a sensation when it was released just before the end of 2011 and we now have ‘Animal’. It is sharp but a shade toned down from the propulsive energy of ‘Family’. It seems like a long time ago now since they released their debut but on the evidence so far, they’ve only got better.

Family will be released June 15th on School Boy Error/ Co-operative Music. In the meantime, we have ‘Animals’, the album’s second single to listen to.

BarryGruff Presents #4: Ghost Estates w/ Neon Wolf :: Flanagan’s :: Newbridge :: April 8th

So, it’s gig #4 for ‘BarryGruff’ Presents’ in Flanagan’s, Newbridge on Easter Sunday, April 8th. Entry is FREE as always and judging by the previous gigs, this is going to be one hell of a night!

Dublin 5 piece Ghost Estates made quite an impression in the past 12 months. A number stellar singles and storming live shows, including Electric Picnic and Hard Working Class Heroes, earned them a lot of praise from this blog and earmarked them as definite ‘one’s to watch’.

They are currently readying their debut album for release in June and the band brings their delectably tight indie sound to Newbridge for the first time. Accompanying them on the bill is Thomastown band Neon Wolf, whose own unbridled feel-good indie-pop has caused more than their fair share of a stir and they left quite an impression the last time they were in town.

So, forget about those Easter eggs, this is going to be a great night and one not to be missed! Entry is FREE as always and starts at 8.30pm, Easter Sunday, April 8thth. More info & Facebook event here.

Introducing: Only Real | Delectable blend of hip hop and indie

Only Real is the handle of 20-year-old Niall Galvin, who from his West London bedroom produces some charming sounds, taking care of production, vocals, arrangement etc.

It is an usual but delectable blend of hip hop and guitar indie. ‘Cadillac Girl’ demonstrates this attitude best. It worms its way inside your head and refuses to leave, meandering around there with a lazy but catchy riff, steady drumbeat, rapping and a carefree hazy vocal drawl. There is a kind of Jamie T / King Krule thing going, and, I for one cannot get enough of it right now.

Only Real’s currently working in getting the live set-up sorted but for now I’ll happily make do with what he has to offer.
