Last weekend was mainly about the ‘Platform V’ competition (in Kildare anyway, The Rags were fantastic in Whelans too) for opening slots on ‘The New Band Stage’ at this years Oxegen Festival reached semi-final stage in The Phoenix. It was a good buzz with two particularly great performances from eventual winners Awake Young Soldiers and Band on an Island, the final on 18th June should be a blast.
Meanwhile it’s a Bank Holiday weekend here and it’s all changed. Status Quo are set for The Curragh on Friday night (yes you read that right) and The Stone Roses Experience arrives to The Late Lounge in Kill on Saturday night. What’s the priority? The prospect of the Quo playing with the added bonus of throwing a few bets down is impossible to resist. It may surprise many of you but the tickets are already at hand, while they’re by no means cool or trendy (whatever that is) they do what they do very well and unlike many an ageing rock band they seem to love it. The Stone Roses Experience is certainly on the list of things to do, cash permitting that is, a few winners on Friday would help with that.
