It was a pretty decent week if like me your a fan of Johnny Flynn, following the announcement earlier this week that July 7th will see the release of his new album Been Listening. The follow-up to 2008’s A Larum, will feature collaborations with Laura Marling and Anna Calvi. I was late discovering (much to my shame, but better late than never eh?) A Larum towards the end of last year and it quickly became one of my favourite albums last year. Flynn is a superb song writer and is continuing to get plenty of play around these parts, delighted by this news would be an understatement.
But wait there was even more great news this week with Zane Lowe picking his new tune ‘Kentucky Pill’ as the hottest record in the world on Radio 1 (recording is below). It would appear that Flynn, a superb song writer whose ability to mold folks past with the here and now is unsurpassed by his contemporaries, has picked up where he left off. But you can be the judge below.
Mp3: Johnny Flynn – Kentucky Pill
Flynn is playing a string of live dates with Mumford & Sons throughout April, as well as a tour of the UK in May but no sign of Irish dates yet.
