BarryGruff’s March 2015 Playlist

A regular monthly feature to the blog; a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured during the month.

It was a pretty big month for the blog to be fair. We celebrated 5 years of BarryGruff with GruffWuff; a 19 track compilation of new, previously unreleased and exclusive recordings from some of my very favourite acts over the past 5 years of blogging. If somehow you missed all the hoo-ha about ‘GruffWuff’, there’s more info here & you can download / stream it here: Bandcamp / Soundcloud.

Aside from this rather significant milestone, there was the return of Tame Impala, Applescal, Crocodiles and Cian Ciaran with new tracks ahead of their respective albums, and new singles from Teleman, Telegram, Girls Names, Tandem Felix, The Dead Heavys, CaStLeS and Spies. Also featuring on the playlist are: Django Django, Ulrika Spacek, By The Sea, Hippies Vs Ghosts and O Emperor.

Listen to BarryGruff`s March 2015 playlist below. The track listing is after the jump:

Tandem Felix – ‘Nothing I Do Will Ever Be Good Enough’

Press Shot 3

Dublin four-piece Tandem Felix are set to release new EP ‘Comma’ via Trout Records.

Having wooed us over the past few years with a number of lush, sweeping and soft indie tracks, the first taster from their forthcoming EP, ‘Nothing I Do Will Ever Be Good Enough’ offers a slightly different side to the band. Apparently brought about by a period of transition and a lineup change, Tandem Felix’s new single ‘Nothing I Do Will Ever Be Good Enough’, is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s a mellow, lilting indie-rock number, distilled with a breezy country vibe, while retaining the elegant facets of what made them an attractive proposition to begin with. A simply wonderful song.

Tandem Felix’s new EP Comma, is due on April 27th through Trout Records. The new single is below and you can also head to Soundcloud and check out their already impressive catalogue.

Phoenix 48 Radiothon: 2 Hours w/ BarryGruff + The Boozey Swine

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100

A few weeks back, myself and The Boozey Swine, sandwich maker to the stars, took to the airwaves as part of Phoenix FM‘s 48 hour Radiothon.

The Radiothon was to raise funds for the station and to support the continued work it does in the Dublin 15 community, and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of. It was pretty nerve racking but after Boozey said a few prayers to the patron saint of radio, Larry Gogan, we we’re on our way and it was loads of fun. Sure what’s more enjoyable than taking over a studio to play loads of your favourite music? You can listen to the full two hour show in all it’s glory below and the tracklist is after the jump. We’d quite like to do something similar in the future but we shall see, maybe those prayers Boozey was rattling off will come through for us.

Before that, a massive thanks to Boozey for being part of the show, and everyone who donated a few quid and all the sound people at Phoenix FM, we thank you. Enjoy!

Tandem Felix – ‘Ryan Hoguet’ / ‘How Strange, The Weather’

1472019_10151725155361971_398436851_n

Tandem Felix revealed their new double a-side single ‘Ryan Hoguet’/’How Strange, The Weather’ just over a week ago.

The new single follows on from their Popcorn EP, released back in April. Such was the quality of the EP it could have proved a rather hard act to follow. No such problem for the Dublin based quartet who continue to explore their way through the stunningly elegant sound they happened upon with Popcorn. The pick of the pair (for me) has to be ‘Ryan Hoguet’. Slowly evolving over a thoroughly laid back four and a half minutes, it is a serenely beautiful number, who’s woozy vibe owes much to the majestic combination of sweeping, soft instrumentation and hushed, whispering vocals. Tandem Felix have signed off 2013 in style. Let’s hope we hear plenty more from them in the new year.

You can road test both ‘Ryan Hoguet’ & ‘How Strange, The Weather’ below or purchase it from here. There’s a launch party happening this Wednesday (Dec 11th) in the Button Factory – all the details are here.
