Lazy Day – ‘Weird Cool’

‘Weird Cool’ is the new single of the London-based lo-fi dreamy-grunge quartet Lazy Day.

Beginning life in 2014 as the solo bedroom project of Tilly Scantlebury, Lazy Day have expanded to a live four-piece band, going from strength to strength and served us with a series of superb releases. Latest single ‘Weird Cool’ is no different and spoils us in a similarly splendid style. Simultaneously biting and moody, ‘Weird Cool’ shifts along a groovy bubbling bassline and reverb-ridden, chorus-y guitars as Scantelbury’s beautiful, powerful and impassioned vocals soar effortlessly over the top. The single is aptly self-described by the band as a ‘groovy moody weird love song’, but in general terms Lazy Day are reliably brilliant and honestly heartwarming.

The single coincides with a series of UK headline shows (Bournemouth, London and Bristol) as well as Irish & UK support with Alex Lahey, including Belfast on March 30 & Dublin on April 1 – no joke. The complete list of dates are here.

London-based Lazy Day Return With Beautifully Melodic New Single; ‘Disappear’

If you cast your mind back to Record Store Day last year, you may remember Lazy Day teaming up with Tuff Love for excellent split single, ‘Portrait’ / ‘Groucho’.

Well, since then, things fell sadly quite – until now that is. The London-based quartet have teamed up with Lost Map records to release their brand new single ‘Disappear’. Now 18 months is a bloody long time, but this is a beautifully melodic return, and one that radiates warmth. Led by Scantlebury’s powerful and compelling croon, it quietly builds from ambient origins, as guitars chime and flicker around the vocals before being engulfed by a swell of instrumentation – exploding into life with tight percussion, cascading melody and thick and crunchy guitars billowing from all sides. ‘Disappear’ perfectly balances the light with the dark. Scantlebury’s vocals splattered with melancholy and yearning, are tempered by hazy guitar textures, dreamy melodies and lively drums to give life to a sort of lo-fi, dream-pop/grungey hybrid. Phenomenally brilliant, and unforgettable.

Released on a super limited run of 7″ vinyl, ‘Disappear’ is backed by b-side ‘All The Time’. Limited or not, we have here, listen to to ‘Disappear’ below.

A regular monthly feature to the blog; a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured during the month.

It was another excellent month for new music, one which saw the return of CZARFACE, Miaoux Miaoux, Girlpool and Jinx Lennon, with new tracks from their respective forthcoming albums. There were new singles from The Urges, Wilding, Fold, Tuff Love, Hippies Vs Ghosts, Lazy Day, Freedom Fry & Imploded View, and tracks from forthcoming EPs from Tomorrows, Graham Cooney & JUNK.

Also featuring on the playlist are: The School, Fueds, Mowbird & Cotton Wolf. Yeah, so, April was pretty damn good.
