JUNK. – ‘Dennis Wilson’

JUNK._Press_2

York-based lo-fi, garage indie rockers, JUNK. have returned with a second single from their Liquorice EP, which was released earlier this summer.

The many merits and endearing charm of JUNK’s fuzz-drenched, lo-fi  indie-pop goodness have been well noted here on a number of occasions. Saying that, there’s no harm in recapping and in just under three minutes, ‘Dennis Wilson‘ offers a timely reminder of what JUNK. have become known for. It’s a song of sweet, sweeping and loose drifting freedom with light dreamy vocals and lilting, shimmering lead guitar that peering through a haze of fuzz. ‘Dennis Wilson’ is overwhelmingly bright, optimistic and embed with an evocative sense of the last days of summer. JUNK. have been charming our ears for over a year now with their warm and infectious brand of lo-fi indie. What they do is deceptively simple and that is by no means a bad thing; they just create top notch songs.

You can check out ‘Dennis Wilson’ below now & the Liquorice EP is out now, and available via CHUD Records.

BarryGruff’s April 2015 Playlist

BGAP15

A regular monthly feature to the blog; a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured during the month.

It was another excellent month for new music, one which saw the return of CZARFACE, Miaoux Miaoux, Girlpool and Jinx Lennon, with new tracks from their respective forthcoming albums. There were new singles from The Urges, Wilding, Fold, Tuff Love, Hippies Vs Ghosts, Lazy Day, Freedom Fry & Imploded View, and tracks from forthcoming EPs from Tomorrows, Graham Cooney & JUNK.

Also featuring on the playlist are: The School, Fueds, Mowbird & Cotton Wolf. Yeah, so, April was pretty damn good.

JUNK. – ‘Dirt In My Eye’

JUNK. 2015

York’s JUNK. first caught our eye last year with their Car EP, introducing us to the trio’s charming, sweetly melodic take on garage punk.

The trio are back with a new track ‘Dirt in My Eye’, a first glimpse into their forthcoming EP, Liquorice, released on May 4th, through CHUD Records. Junk. have always exuded vigour and vibrancy, but with an innocence – or lack of pretension – to how they approach their music which is part of their charm. This charm is something amplified with ‘Dirt in My Eye’; a melodic, ridiculously tuneful and utterly contagious track. It’s lo-fi rumbling, rough-around-the-edges and shambling verse-chorus indie that is ever so affable. Affable because, for all its rough edges, a precocious energy sucks you and the whole thing is so teeming with frazzled guitars, riffs, sharp melodies, splendid doo-wopping and peppy vocals, and oh, you’re never more than five seconds from a hook. A wonderful jangly lo-fi racket is coated with fuzz and pop sensibilities, made exponentially more loveable by the delightful twin vocals of Estella Adeyeri and Sam Coates. Simply: charming, catchy and glorious lo-fi indie pop.

The EP will be with us on May 4th but right now, you can sample the sweet charms of ‘Dirt In My Eye’ below.

The weather’s been amazingly good over here, so to complement the clement climes, there has been a lot of cheery, sunny sounds on the go.

One perfect example of this approach are York trio JUNK., who are anything but what their self-deprecating name would suggest. Rather they specialize in charming, extremely catchy and glorious lo-fi indie pop songs, which litter their debut EP, Car. Clocking in at around the three minute mark, Junk. create short and sweet darts of harmonising happiness; a jangly lo-fi racket coated with fuzz but the pop sensibilities are there for everyone to hear. Their glorious lo-fi indie pop is made exponentially more loveable by the stunning the blend of male/ female vocals, delivered with expert precession, they could warm the  of the most miserable of hearts. That’s more or less the treats that await you on their wonderful four-track EP of ‘Matches’, ‘Pictures’, ‘Polystyrene’ and ‘Car’ which has a fine succession of ‘bap bap ba da da da’s’ that you will be singing away for the rest of the summer.

The York trio’s debut EP is out now and you can sample some choice cuts below, and if they are to your liking, you can pick the EP up here.
