BarryGruff Albums of the Year (2015)

BGs Albums of the year 2015So it is that time of year again, lists, lists and more lists. Well, not be out done, here are my 41 (yes 41, and yes it’s a weird number) albums of 2015.

It has been such a good year for new albums, probably the best since I started the blog back in 2010. So much so that there is very little difference between the top 5, top 10, top 15 and so on. So without further ado, here are my favourite records from 2015:

bg2015sofar

I’m not exactly the best at keeping you and the site up-to-date with album reviews, to be honest, it’s the old enemy time. Discovering the hours to scribble some thoughts about this album or that has become rather elusive, but thankfully finding time to listen to albums, and music in general, is less of an issue.

Here are a list of my most listened and loved records of 2015 so far with Spotify links and playlists for overall albums of 2015. There are plenty of playlists on Spotify and Soundcloud and on the blog too. Oh, and with regards to albums *cough, cough*, you can still download GruffWuff, a 19 track compilation celebrating 5 years of BarryGruff, for FREE from bandcamp, *cough, cough*.

Fort Romeau – ‘Insides’

Fort_Romeau_750_750_75_s

London producer Fort Romeau has a new album called Insides due on March 31st through Ghostly, and ahead of what will be his second album, he’s released the title track to provide us with an appetizer.

‘Insides’ is a perfect example of what Fort Romeau does best. A wonderfully immersive, slow-burning late-night house jam, relaxed and focused in its mood, it is both restrained and beautiful in its repetition. It slinks by with whooshing noises, horns sound above some delicate keys and a smattering of skittering beats and undulating beeps, for a classy, smooth six-minute instrumental. ‘Insides’ has been on constant rotation throughout the past week and it has set the bench pretty damn high for the follow-up to his 2012 debut album Kingdoms.

Anticipating a lot from the new album which is due on March 31st via Ghostly. And for now? Just the not so small matter of the title track below and it’s quite a tune!

Fort Romeau – ‘Stay True’

fort-romeau-686x320

London’s Mike Greene aka Fort Romeau is gearing up to release his new EP Stay / True in mid September through Ghostly, following a recent change of label.

The title track from the London producer’s aforementioned new EP is an immense slow burning gem. ‘Stay True’ is an elegant and immersive deep house trip. Beginning with an ’80s dance pop inspired opening, it develops, twisting and turning through a broody, languid world, cruising along on a serious house and disco groove. Clocking in at seven minutes, it’s one of those tunes that draws you in, transporting you to another world of alternate blissfulness. ‘Stay True’ has been on constant rotation this week and with the weekend upon us, it’s a trend likely set to continue.

Stay / True is out on September 16th through Ghosty. You can give the title track the once over below.
