Deep Sea Diver Announce New Album, Share ‘Lights Out’

Seattle’s Deep Sea Diver have announced their third album — Impossible Weight — will be released via High Beam Records on October 16th.

Accompanying this news, the indie-rock outfit led by Jessica Dobson have shared lead single ‘Lights Out’ to whet the appetite, and oh my, does it ever. ‘Lights Out’ explodes out of the blocks with an urgent, propulsive bassline driving us onward as guitars flash and flurry of angular riffs flash amid the mild fuzz while Dobson’s own electrifying guitarwork is front and centre, a suitable backdrop to more fully illuminate the power of her vocals. ‘Lights Out’ is a massive, massive tune built upon thrilling momentum and restless intensity as we careen through mesmerizing highs and lows that are raucously defiant yet delicate at the same time.

Check out  ‘Lights Out’ below – the new album is out on October 16th.

Your regular monthly round up all the blog action, in a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured throughout the month.

March was good, as was the weather but even better tunes and whatnot. We had tracks courtesy of Helen Love, Teleman, Weird Dreams and Kelly Lee Owens  from their respective, new and forthcoming albums. We had introductions to Estrons, Hannah Lou Clark, Deep Sea Diver, Games Violet, Pavel and Eoin Dolan, while there were excellent new singles/EPs from Bousada, Anderson, Junior Bill, Silverbacks, Slow Riot, Boxed In and David Harks. Oh, and there were two new episodes of ‘Millions Like Us’, Justin Beats & I’s new music podcast extravaganza for 604now (if you missed them, check ’em here). You can also subscribe to ‘Millions Like Us’ on iTunes & Podcast Republic or find us on Facebook & Twitter.

Well then, that’s that for another month – listen to BarryGruff’s March 2016 playlist below. Enjoy!

Deep Sea Diver – ‘See These Eyes’

deep sea diver 2016

Seattle-based indie-pop band, Deep Sea Diver is the creation of singer/songwriter/musician Jessica Dobson, who honed her craft touring with The Shins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Beck.

Last month, Dobson and her band of cohorts released their second album Secrets, and it is pretty damn good. A diverse but cohesive exploration of experimental indie and powerful rock, with a pop sensibility lurking beneath. It’s an addictive and infectious record, filled with grit, power and control. Deep Sea Diver’s latest single take from their new album, ‘See These Eyes’ illustrates the beauty and brawn approach. A bright palette and luminescent spectrum of colourful sounds cavorts with the song’s buoyant and jaunty rhythm as Dobson’s vocals slide from powerfully emotive to beguiling whisper with an ease. This is just so good, and it is a sterling example of what awaits you on Secrets.

Secrets is out now on Deep Sea Diver’s own High Beam label. Purchase it here. You can check out ‘See These Eyes’ below, the video accentuates its colourful essence.

Deep Sea Diver play Vancouver’s Biltmore Cabaret, w/ Radiation City on March 17th – details here and full list of tour dates here.
