Ciaran Lenehan – ‘Control’

It seems like an eternity since Ciaran Lenehan released his debut EP, It’s Never Too Late, in the summer of 2011. Lenehan’s debut album might have been a long time coming but the Dublin singer/songwriter will release These Stories on November 15th.

Ahead of the album’s forthcoming release, Lenehan has unveiled ‘Control’, as a taste of what to expect. ‘Control’ is an upbeat and bright acoustic driven folk song, all washed with a hint of pop, and juxtaposed by lyrics surrounding the trials and tribulations of losing one’s way in the mundanity of everyday life. What we’re left with is a thoughtful, eloquent and incredibly catchy first taste from his new LP. Lenehan has been a firm favourite around these parts for some time, so needless to say, November 15th can’t come quick enough.

You can stream / download ‘Control’ below. These Stories is released on November 15th, with a launch show on November 16th in The Pint, on Eden Quay.

We Went Down (KM):

Heartfelt Folk’ n Roll three-piece from Tallaght, Dublin. In there own words: “Two chancers bumped into a lad in an off licence, Questions were asked, We drank cans, We jammed tunes, We Went Down.” There music speaks louder than any promo/pr nonsense. Check it below.

Ciaran Lenehan (BG):

The second of two Tallaght acts, Ciaran Lenehan, has become a firm favourite in Newbridge and makes a welcome return to the town, ahead of the release of his long-awaited debut album, These Stories, in November. To keep it relatively short; Lenehan is a songwriter to be reckoned with. Simple, assured and engaging and most importantly he has the talent to make wonderful stories into fantastic songs.

Ciaran Lenehan – ‘Control’

Fresh from ripping it up at ‘BarryGruff Presents’ #10 on Saturday night, Ciaran Lenehan has shared a brand new track, ‘Control’, a snippet of what to expect from his forthcoming debut album These Stories.

The album title is pretty apt, seen as one of Lenehan’s finest qualities is the ability to turn wonderful stories into fantastic songs. Lenehan has lost none of the charm that made his 2011 EP so likable, in fact, he’s getting better. ‘Control’ certainly demonstrates the Dublin singer/songwriter at his very best, it’s an upbeat and bright acoustic driven song, with his prowess for engaging lyricisms at it’s very core.

These Stories will be released early next year but ‘Control’ will keep us going through the cold winter months till then.

BarryGruff Presents #10 w/ Our Krypton Son, Ciaran Lenehan & Sea Area Forecast :: Flanagan’s Bar, Newbridge :: Saturday :: Nov 17th

It’s hard to believe this is the tenth BarryGruff Presents show in Newbridge, how did that happen?

Anyway. BarryGruff Presents #10 returns to Flanagan’s Bar, Newbridge for another fantastic night of  live music on Saturday, November 17th, w/ Our Krypton Son, Ciaran Lenehan (full band) & Sea Area Forecast.

Chris McConaghy aka Our Krypton Son hails from Derry, where he cut his first musical teeth and establishing his song writing credentials sharing stages with David Kitt, Jape and Cashier No. 9. In early 2010 McConaghy gathered close musician friends together to create Our Krypton Son. Our Krypton Son’s muse traverses the songscapes of Wilco, Costello, Bowie, Waits and Orbison; with McConaghy’s voice fragile, tender and touching. This is a first visit to Newbridge for Our Krypton Son as part of their Irish tour in support of their self-titled debut album.

Dublin folk rocker Ciaran Lenehan takes time out from prepping his new album to return to Newbridge, where he has become a firm favourite. Having earned his stripes on the live circuit with the likes of Damien Dempsey, Frank Turner and Wallis Bird, Lenehan is a songwriter to be reckoned with; simple, assured and engaging. Most importantly he has the talent to make wonderful stories into fantastic songs. This is a rare chance to see him perform with his full band behind him.

Meanwhile support comes from Newbridge’s very own Sea Area Forecast who bring their indie folk sounds to the town for the first time since releasing their debut EP. It all promises to be yet another memorable night.

Entry is FREE as always and the show starts at 9.00pm in Flanagan’s, Newbridge on Saturday, November 17th. For more info & Facebook event.

BarryGruff Presents #7: Trap Door, Nathan Conway, Ciaran Lenehan + DJs :: Flanagan’s :: Newbridge :: Sat June 30th

‘BarryGruff Presents’ #7 is here & returns to Flanagan’s Bar, Newbridge on Saturday, June 30th.

It’s going to one hell of a night w/ 3 great live performances from Trap Door, Nathan Conway & Ciarán Lehehan, a bar extension and DJ sets from Cormac Brady (SEBP), Robbie Coffey & Myself,  BarryGruff till 2am.

Dublin trio Trap Door were absolutely brilliant in The Workman’s a few weeks ago. They combine a rich mix of punk, folk, ska and hip-hop with insightful flowing and streetwise lyrics. In a similar approach of one Jamie T, Trap Door take the listener rumbustious rattle through urban life, something borne out on their excellent debut EP, Lata Town, with songs of lyrical depth, plenty of youthful lairiness and rebelliousness (download it here for free).

Accompanying them on the bill are Nathan Conway and Ciaran Lenehan. Since releasing his first album with The Bottlestoppers in 2011, Nathan Conway has been back in the studio developing an ever more sophisticated Soul and Country Music sound. Meanwhile Dublin folk rocker Ciaran Lenehan has played with the likes of Damien Dempsey, Frank Turner and Wallis Bird, brings his engaging and eloquent songs to Newbridge once again for a second BarryGruff show.

Entry is FREE as always and the show starts at 9.00pm until 2.00am in Flanagan’s, Newbridge on Saturday, June 30th. For more &  Facebook event.

A quick round-up: Barrygruff Presents #1 ‘Ciaran Lenehan w/ Appo’

Last month we hosted the very first ‘Barrygruff Presents’ show in Flanagan’s, down here in Newbridge.

The performances from both Appo (w/ Aoife & Mark Byrne) and Ciaran Lenehan went down a treat with the punters. I was genuinely shocked with just how many people turned out for the show, it’s that kind of thing that makes it worth doing.

It was a massive success on so many levels, so much so that we’re doing another one on Thursday September 22nd (Arthur’s Day) w/ We Are Losers and No Monster Club but more on that later.

There are a couple of videos below and you can download the sets from both Appo & Ciaran Lenehan too – technology eh?

Before wrapping things up a huge thank you to Stephen Connelly, Cillian Duffy, Tim Crowley for the sound/recording, Robbie O’ Donnell, Joe Dunne and Orlaith Halpin for the videos.

Sure we might see you at the next one on the 22nd?

‘Barrygruff Presents’: Ciaran Lenehan w/ support from Appo. Flanagan’s Bar Newbridge, Co. Kildare @ 9pm Thursday, August 11, 2011.

Ciaran Lenehan – ‘It’s Never Too Late’ EP

The past year has seen Dubliner Ciaran Lenehan earning his stripes on the live circuit, sharing the bill with the likes of Damien Dempsey, Frank Turner and Joe Echo. Now with skills honed, he’s recorded debut EP It’s Never Too Late, enlisting the assistance of good friends Ste Devine, Kev Behan and Brian Kennedy.

The 3-track EP highlights Lenehan’s obvious penchant for storytelling, which along with his elegant and eloquent songs provides a charming insight into the ideas and personality of one man.

He opens proceedings with the catchy, upbeat and joyful ‘Too Late’, which is brimming with memorable sing-a-long moments. ‘You Stole Today’ is a powerful and emotive number, akin to Seize The Day era Damien Dempsey perhaps, while ‘Wake Me Up’ is of a much more slow burner building all the while to an epic finale.

Ciaran Lenehan is a songwriter to be reckoned with; simple, assured and engaging. Most importantly he has the talent to make wonderful stories into fantastic songs.

It’s Never Too Late is out this Friday May 20th w/ the launch in The Lower Deck, Portebello, the same day at 8pm (€7 entry includes copy of the EP!). Support from Ciara Ashmore.
