Light Phases – ‘Energy Flux’

Light Phases is an electronic music project from Huddersfield-born, Rotherham-based musician and producer, Nick Staples.

With Light Phases, Staples explores diverse electronic sounds and sonic palettes grounded in the melodic, ambient, deep, and rhythmic, which evoke emotion, whilst never too far from the dance floor. With his sonic distillations Staples ekes out a balance between contrasting components; a proficiency in such matters is born out for all to see on debut EP, Low Wave Motion. This first musical foray under the Light Phases moniker is spearheaded by lead single ‘Energy Flux’. It strikes a perfect balance between the ethereal dreaminess and transfixing winding techno tendencies as it stitches together bright chimes, sputtering and choppy electronics and burbling synthesizers. Acid squelches are woven seamlessly with dreamy tones as we float away to a world of whispering tranquillity – it definitely veers more toward an air of slumbering meditation.

Ten Fé To Release Debut Album Next Month; Share ‘Twist Your Arm’

Following countless great singles like ‘Overflow’ and ‘Make Me Better’ London-based duo Ten Fé – aka Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan – will release their debut album Hit The Light on February 3.

Produced by Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, M83, The Rapture), ‘Twist Your Arm’ is the latest single to be lifted from the forthcoming album – and it’s a doozy. A real stomper, permeated by a sort of epic vibe, thanks to the combination of early ’90s carefree acid house, Screamadelica style vibes alongside shuffling lazy beats, Come Together style choirs and rather sublime Simple Minds-esque vocals. This is indie-music-to-dance-to of the highest order, all swirling, shuffling, feel-good and versatile. Having already released so many sublime singles over the last two years, ‘Twist Your Arm’ is the icing on the cake. And to use that old chestnut, the appetite has certainly been whetted.

Hit The Light is out on February 3 but for now, do yourself a favour and give ‘Twist Your Arm’ and the rather tasty Roman Flügel remix below.

Jagwar Ma Confirm New Album Details, Share ‘Give Me A Reason’

Jagwar Ma‘s new album must surely be one of the most hotly anticipated new releases of the year – such was the sheer brilliance of their debut. So with that in mind, the Aussie electronic-psych-pop outfit have announced their forthcoming second album Every Now & Then will be out on October 14 via Future Classic.

After sharing lead single ‘OB1’ earlier this summer, Jagwar Ma have bestowed upon us, new track ‘Give Me A Reason’. A sprawling and enthralling seven minutes, ‘Give Me A Reason’ gradually unfolds, revealing layer upon layer of euphoric joy. Channelling everything and anything, it descends into a hazy, feel-good tunnel of dubby Madchester and acid-house inspired melodies and deep house grooves. Emphatically brilliant and utterly irresistible, ‘Give Me A Reason’ will have you coming back for more, again and again.
