Remington Super 60 – ‘See This Through’

Remington Super 60 are a Norwegian outfit with a penchant for lush, retro-flavoured indie-pop brimming with warmth and dreamy nostalgia – a niche they have carved out over almost two decades.

In mid-March, the trio – Magnus Abelsen, Elisabeth T & Christoffer Schou – released a brand new seven track EP ‘Nouvelle Nouveau’ – a veritable treasure trove of serene, beautiful and beguiling pop perfection. ‘See This Through’ is the fourth and final single from Remington Super 60’s mini album Nouvelle Noveau released earlier this year – a veritable treasure trove of serene, beautiful and beguiling pop perfection. ‘See This Through’ deals directly with the breakup between the bands producer Christoffer Schou and singer Elisabeth Thorsen, and unsurprisingly, it is very personal for the two. Lush, dreamy vocals hover gracefully above a soft pattering of gentle waltzing beat while gently strummed guitars shimmer and glow amid the soothingly warm hypnosis. While darkness may permeate the origin of the song, it is delivered in a light, fluffy and breezy package that is as close to pure pop perfection as you are likely to hear today.

Blimp is a Dublin-based producer with a penchant for lush, warm and woozy slices of seductive house/electronica – attributes demonstrated in abundance by the beautiful, feelgood and sunny electronica escapism of new single ‘Always In My Mind’.

‘Always In My Mind’ follows debut single ‘Back To Me’ (feat. Kareem Ali) earlier this year, and delivers something deliciously seductive; marrying the exquisite elegance of electronica, dancefloor focus and seductive grooves of house music – and in doing so, crafting something we’d expect from far more seasoned hands. It is a lush, lavish and sunkissed affair as warm synths fizz with life and effervescence, gushing over soft beats, deep seductive grooves and sparkling spurts of electronics, amid an abundance of uplifting and sunny vibes. ‘Always In My Mind’ is a beautifully, uplifting and lush jam, bound together by a feelgood vibe, seductive groove, and peppered by bouts of mild euphoria and compulsion to dance.

One to get lost in as it forms a real sense of familiarity, oozing nostalgic feelings for hazy summer days and nights – and something that will keep you coming back for more.

Bobsled Team – ‘Hey Kid’

Bobsled Team are a Belfast pairing – Oliver and Kimberley – with a preference for dreamy, lo-fi guitar-pop – and proudly DIY.

The emerged last year with jaunty debut single ‘This Pink Moon’ and put last year’s rolling Covid-19 lockdowns to productive use, having brought their debut album The Colours Blur into the world this summer. The latest single lifted from the record is ‘Hey Kid’ – a slightly rough around the edges, lo-fi ditty with a charming heart of gold – it perfectly captures the aesthetic of both band and album. ‘Hey Kid’ takes us on a melodic meander as a soft snare patters beneath layers of woozy tones, swirling fuzz and atmospherics as guitars jangle and scratchy riffs waltz with heart melting melodies all while hazy lilting vocals cruise calmly above.

A warm, charming and heartwarming slice of indie-pop brilliance – give it a spin below – the album (which is definitely worth a moment of your time) is here.

Zoee – ‘Fountain’

London-based musician Harriet Zoe Pittard aka Zoee has recently released her debut LP Flaw Flower.

Two years in the making, the album ushers us on an offbeat exploration of playfully imaginative, off-kilter sounds with nods to the avant pop of the 80s. ‘Fountain’ is the latest wonder to be lifted from the record and it exudes all the aforementioned playful, experimental pop prowess and leftfield vibes. It glides over soft pattering electronic beat as flickers of guitars and shimmering synths flutter amid an ethereal swirl of atmospherics with dramatic sax solo adding a glowing intensity as soft spoken vocals deliver a focused stream of consciousness, seeping into every corner and cranny of the ethereal otherworldly backdrop.

Listen to ‘Fountain’ below – the debut album is here too, and well worth your time.

Mazoulew – ‘Ki Lo’

UK producer Mazoulew has been crafting captivating electronic sounds since the mid 00s and drawing from a rich well of inspiration – trip-hop, jazz, downtempo, drum & bass and more – his sound has mutated, evolved and refined over time.

Continuing to transcend genres, Mazoulew is back with new single ‘Ki Lo’ – the third instalment lifted from his forthcoming Movements EP, out October 15. ‘Ki Lo’ sounds beautifully organic as it traverses the realms of techno, downtempo electronica with ambient touches. Heavy on mood, texture and atmosphere, carefully coaxed out, it builds slowly and smoothly as beats ripple and crunch softly while synths pulse and amid a spacious world of shifting atmospherics and frazzled electronics. A hypnotic and completely captivating intro to the forthcoming EP – and superb as usual from Mazoulew.

The Bug Club – ‘The Fixer’

The Bug Club are the creative trio of Sam Willmett (guitar/vocals), Tilly Harris (bass/vocals) and Dan Matthew (drums), from the little-known rock n’ roll hotbed of Caldicot, Monmouthshire.

Together they craft tight-knit, catchy and memorable tunes; sometimes blistering, fiery and fierce and other times, melodic and playfully addictive, and always fizzing with humour and riffs-a-plenty – attributes on display in abundance on their brilliant debut EP Launching Moondream One which was released earlier in the summer.

Hot on the heels of their debut EP comes new single ‘The Fixer’ – a blistering bolt of fizzed-up garage-rock – lifted from their forthcoming new mini-album ‘Pure Particles’ due in November. Propelled by an unrelenting stomping beat and electrifying energy, guitars buzz as meaty  raucous riffs roar amid lovely layers of warm fuzz and lashings of distortion as Willmet & Harris deliver brilliant dual vocals. ‘The Fixer’ finds a sweet spot between melodic and muscular; an utterly addictive scuzzy jam hooks you could hang your hat on.
