Jesse Jo Stark – ‘Mystery’

We were introduced to Jesse Jo Stark‘s Gothic coated world of gently psychedelic 1960’s pop and garage, and spooky indie folk, earlier in the year with singles ‘Rot Away’ and ‘Wish I Was Dead’.

The LA-based artist is back with another brooding sliver of compelling, guitar-noir in the shape of new single ‘Mystery’. It offers us an introduction to the a different, softer and woozier side to Stark’s music. ‘Mystery’ combines her predilection for the spooky with a mellow but eerie country/bluesy tone, creating a beguiling waltz, perfectly polished off by Stark’s seductively smoky delivery. Another wonderfully compelling tune – also, the pick of recent releases too.

Hussy – ‘Slayer’

Hussy is the moniker of South London dream pop purveyor Sophie Nicole Ellison.

Hussy is a multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist with a knack for deep and textured songs, layering fuzzy guitars to create spellbinding soundscapes – something that is on full show with new single ‘Slayer’. It is a tantalising introduction as gauzy layers of winding, overlapping guitars and Ellison’s smooth, breathy vocal are the cornerstone of this atmospheric, yearning and dreamy world. Layers of guitars, fuzz, distortion and whirring are moulded into something beautiful, lulling you in and transfixing, while the spine-tingling, ghostly quality of Ellison’s seal the deal, adding another level of beauty entirely. Recorded and produced in her home studio, short and simple; ‘Slayer’ is a dream-pop delight.

Loyal Lobos – ‘Burn’

Colombia-born singer/songwriter Andrea Silva, otherwise known as Loyal Lobos, has finally released her debut EP under this moniker, The Fall.

Now based in Los Angeles, Silva crafts compelling, alt-pop songs – with more than a hint of folk/Americana – imbued with a hazy melancholy and rich melodic purr that makes you privy to every iota of emotion. ‘Burn’ is the latest single lifted from the aforementioned EP and captures heart-achingly beautiful and intimacy that runs through the record. ‘Burn’ is a dreamy journey through transfixing hazy textures and moody, dreamy and somewhat gloomy atmospheres as we’re treated to Silva’s intimate, poetic lyricism which are delivered with stirring and commanding craft. ‘Burn’ is all kinds of wonderful – it captivates, evokes emotion and thrills in equal measure.

R. Seiliog Announces New Album; Shares ‘Opal Drift’

Welsh producer R.Seiliog aka Robin Edwards has announced he will release a new album Megadoze, on November 30 via Turnstile.

With this most welcome news comes lead track ‘Opal Drift’ which suggests subtle shift from the sonic palette of previous albums Doppler (2013) and In Hz (2016) – both masterful works. ‘Opal Drift’ is a wonderful slice of deep flowing ambient techno that opens with a gently evocative sound of trickling water that flows through ambient textures and synth waves along a subtle beat and gentle pulsing rhythm, swelling to softly envelope all in its carefully sculpted surrounding. Mesmerising stuff that certainly adds to the excitement for the forthcoming album.

Vansire – ‘Halcyon Age’

Vansire are dream pop loving duo of Josh Augustin and Sam Winemiller who have been making music under various guises since school before joining forces.

Their latest single ‘Halcyon Age’ is an easy on the ear dreamy, laid-back and loungey synth-pop tune. A mellow, nostalgia-inducing song that is big on the warm, hazy slacker vibes and really soothes one’s mind. Focused around a warm bassline, dreamy guitar and earnest keys which cut a warm and hazy backdrop for the the silky vocals to breathe as the beat shuffles and sways, while remaining quintessentially dreamy and mellow. A really beautiful song imbued with warmth and nostalgia.

‘Halcyon Age’ is taken from the BIRP.fm compilation Vinyl Post and it features a host of other tunes from Foliage, MUNYA to Cody Ash. The project is currently being funded via their kick starter page and successful funding will ensure further releases.

Pablo Zuazo – ‘Macaco Nu Jazz’

Pablo Zuazo is a Brazilian-born jazz pianist, singer and songwriter who’s genre-defying sound zigzags between bossa nova, MPB, jazz, samba, hip hop and electronica.

This genre hopping approach is demonstrated expertly and with precision by single ‘Macaco Nu Jazz’. An astounding and meticulously crafted affair, it is a lavish exploration of genres, styles and eras. Macaco Nu Jazz’ is a super cool, gloriously smooth and funky head nodding adventure, spliced and diced into an infectious beat filled jam. You will be lost in a sea of breathtakingly lush layers, choice samples and irresistible beats and groove. Maintaining chillout and feelgood vibes, Zuazo has created a sound which oozes nostalgic feelings for all manner of hazy summer days and nights. An exemplary display of his deft skills.

Ten Fé – ‘No Night Lasts Forever’

Ten Fé have been teasing the follow-up to 2017 debut album Hit The Light with singles ‘Not Tonight’ and ‘Won’t Happen’ but they have finally announced some concrete details.

The London-based outfit will release their forthcoming new record Future Perfect, Present Tense on March 8, with a world tour to follow. With a release date now firmly established, Ten Fé have shared another taster in the form of ‘No Night Lasts Forever’. Now a fully-fledged five-piece with Rob Shipley (bass); Johnny Drain (Keys) and Alex Hammond (drums) coming on-board full-time last year, the chemistry between songwriters Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan – evident throughout their debut – continues to shine bright in this latest offering. Lush, expansive and cinematic, it carries with it a longing and optimism in equal measure on a wave of lush synths, shimmering guitar and bubbling bassline. Finding a sweet spot somewhere between the woozy optimism and taut melodrama – ‘No Night Lasts Forever’ is a fine addition to the Ten Fé collection and it certainly bodes well for next year’s new record.

Mxmtoon – ‘I Feel Like Chet’

Armed with just a ukulele and her voice, mxmtoon – the work of Oakland-based Maia – has been winning hearts and turning heads with her enchanting bedroom-folk sounds since 2017.

Latest single “i feel like chet” is cut from the same cloth; gifting a charming, breezy and bewitching ode to legendary jazz trumpeter Chet Bake. The 18-year-old Oakland artist gifts us a moving, sincere and simplistic gem with her gentle ukulele and glockenspiel playing, folk-enriched style bringing a personal story to life. This stripped-back approach allows for her nonchalant, yet vulnerable voice to fill the space beautifully, rendering the listener powerless to resist its powerful emotional pull.

Whettman Chelmets – ‘Alas…’

Whettman Chelmets is a Missouri-based producer with a preference for pensive, ambient and deeply atmospheric compositions.

Whettman Chelmets’ new single ‘Alas…’ – the latest lifted from the recently released EP Alas… The Sun is Shining, and You Are Still Alive – is an immersive, atmospheric and elegant and all-consuming track. A steady 4/4 beat pushes through a slowly building, all enveloping meditative vibe as the melodic interplay between the twinkling guitar chimes and glistening synth comes to the fore amid heavenly chanting and ebb and the flow of sound and emotion to create a mildly euphoric and uplifting swell. A blissful, enthralling and beautiful track.
