Video: Wye Oak – Civilian

Baltimore duo Wye Oak release new record Civilian next week. The title track ‘Civilian’, a rather haunting slice of folk, imbued with dense guitars and melodic rhythms, has been one of the most blogged about tracks of late.

Ahead of it’s release they’ve dropped an acoustic video of said track recorded in Germany during their European tour. Definitely interested in hearing this record, but for now, check the video/mp3 below.

Download: The Vagabonds ‘Something Wrong’

The Vagabonds have been busy, back in the studio making preparations with legendary producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Babyshambles) for the follow up to Another Victory for Hysteria.

Exclusives are rare around these parts but the band have kindly offered a sneak peak of what they’re up to at the moment with a demo of ‘Something Wrong’. We’re told this song will not feature on the forthcoming EP but it’s another recognizable highly charged short, sharp burst of punk rock.

For all of you across the pond, The Vagabonds embark on a short UK tour in March, dates etc. below.

And So I Watch You From Afar – ‘Search:Party:Animal’

ASIWYFA are set to return with a new album Gangs on May 2nd through Richter Collective.

The first single to be taken from the album is ‘Search:Party:Animal’. It’s a discernible aural assault from one of, if not THE loudest band in the business. A welcome indication of what to expect from the lads album in May.

‘Search:Party:Animal’ is out now (download below) and will be released as a 7″ single on April 4th.

Introducing: Toby Kaar

Toby Kaar is an electronic musician from Cork who up until quite recently had successfully evaded my attention. His cover was well and truly blown following a series of outstanding reports of his show at Whelan’s Ones to Watch back in January.

Up till now he’s been busy making music, gigging around his native Cork and beyond, including support slots with Nathan Fake and Ben Frost and remixing. Kaar’s music is hard to box off into a genre, basically a mixture of fresh beats and ambient electronic grooves which is perhaps best described as somewhere between Caribou and Mount Kimbie.

This is definitely a guy to keep an eye on throughout this year and the next, the future looks bright.

Kaar is playing Upstairs in Whelan’s this Saturday March 5th w/ Coherx and Junior85.
