Swedish-French outfit Rodeo Massacre craft a rather unusual blend of psychedelic blues. Latest single ‘Mama Told Me So’ is accompanied by this equally unusual video.

There is also a sweet remix of previous single ‘Zombies of Life’ by Cornershop (remember them?) to download below.

‘Mama Told Me So’ is taken from the debut album If You Can’t Smoke ‘Em, Sell ‘Em which is out now.

Mr Bligh – Is This England?

Certain sections of the music press seem intent on propagating the view that British music is in need of a savior, by some ‘ladish’ Oasis style hier, yawn!

A quick glance across the musical landscape will dispel such an argument, revealing luminaries such as Arctic Monkeys, British Sea Power and Jamie T et al.

Mr. Bligh hailing from North London comes via the same school as the later. His ponderous debut record Is This England? is a rumbustious rattle through London life, from an artist with a real predilection for detailed insightful social commentary.

We are presented with juxtaposition of lyrical maturity and youthful rebellion absent of clichés or blasé. He contemplates everything from the fairness of a society rewarding the failure of the rich at the expense of others, to the absurdity of racism and joyless house parties.

This distinctive mix of indie, punk, reggae and streetwise hip-hop with flowing, heartfelt lyrics and rich melodies adds Mr. Bligh’s name to the rich sound that is modern Britain.

The White Stripes Call It A Day

As you are probably aware The White Stripes officially confirmed their split on their website yesterday.

While hardly unexpected, it’s four years since Icky Thump, they will be sorely missed. The White Stripes were part a crop of new and exciting bands to emerge at the beginning of the last decade, which for me helped breathe life back into what had become a very bland musical landscape.

The Manic Street Preachers are a band who even after all this time and should be written off at your peril. 2010’s Postcards From A Young Man heralded a glorious return to form, it’s an album of remarkable longevity.

They release the title track, ‘Postcards From A Young Man’ as a single February 28 and have made this home video to coincide with the release.

Siriusmo – ‘Mosaik’

Things are shaping up nicely for Berlin’s Siriusmo and his debut album Mosaik.

First we heard ‘Feromonikon’ a fully fledged dancefloor killer. New cut ‘Mosiak’ maintains this high standard, a giddy playful energetic tune. This all adds fuel to the fire which has already seen this record lauded as ‘the’ dance album to watch out for in 2011.

The record is out February 25th on Monkey Town Records. It can’t come quick enough.

London electro duo Punks Jump Up were one of many highlights on the 10th edition of Kitsuné Maison with ‘Blockhead’.

Now it’s been released as a single with remixes from Zombie Nation, Hey Today!, Stopmakingme, In Flagranti & Symbolone.

Check the video out above.

Evil Uncle – ‘Two Lights Not Broken’

Evil Uncle introduced himself to music fans late last year releasing his Songs for the Road EP. The Galway musician pushed DIY approach to its limits with a novel giveaway of 5,000 copies of the EP via an intriguing guerilla distribution campaign. A nice way to endear himself to cash strapped music fans.

This tried and tested formula of his debut EP is the foundation for which Two Lights Not Broken is built upon, as is his signature DIY ethos too. The album, as with its forbearer is a rather curious listen. There’s a deep feeling of  familiarity here, evoking comparisons to Simple Kid, Ray Davies and Jarvis Cocker which are not without merit.

Like these contemporaries it’s the ease and comfort for which he can shuffle through a combination of quirky themes, upbeat and overwhelmingly endearing tunes.  Standouts include the ironic ‘Something for Nothing’, wholly bizarre ‘Spider Song’ and chirpy ‘Sunny Day In Space’.

It’s by no means perfect but a very solid and impressive debut record from an artist we should be hearing a lot more from in the future.

Free Music: Wounds

Dublin hardcore punk outfit Wounds were one of the first bands to be featured here with a piece on their explosive debut EP Dead Dead Fucking Dead.

I was shocked to find out one of the guys from the band, James had a very serious accident last year and ended up spending four months in hospital. Thankfully he’s made an excellent recovery, hopefully he continues his speedy recovery.

Remarkably they announced via their blog that they are already working on a debut album so watch this space.

Other news from the band is they have kindly made three tracks (two from the EP) available for FREE via bandcamp.

Listen to The Kills – ‘Satellite’

The Kills are to release new studio album, Blood Pressures via Domino on April 1st.

The duo’s album will be preceded by the single ‘Satellite’, a howling melancholic dub-tinged affair. It’s only the first snippet of what’s to come but sounds as though Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart are on top of their game.

‘Satellite’ is out March 25th
