BarryGruff’s May 2015 Playlist

BGMY15

A regular monthly feature to the blog; a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured during the month.

May was another fine month for new music. We had an exclusive premier of The Expert’s new tune, ‘Da Wha?’, the lead single from his forthcoming LP. There were new tunes from Sleaford Mods, Girlpool, Applescal & Tame Impala, ahead of their respective, forthcoming albums. There were excellent new singles from Tomorrows, Telegram, SertOne, Roots Manuva, Foreign/National, The Adventures of Bert & Henry and PANKHABILLI.

Also featuring on the playlist are: GEM_DOS, The North Sea, Disconcerting P, Sweet Baboo, Heaters & Faith Healer. Yeah, so, May was pretty damn good.

Roots Manuva – ‘Facety 2:11′

rootsmanuva_byshamiltanna

Arguably the finest rapper to emerge from British shores, Roots Manuva has been quiet for far too long.

You can never keep a good man down. Earlier this month, Roots decided the time was right to emerge from this slumber, teaming up Four Tet,and Machinedrum for double A-side single, ‘Facety 2:11′ / ‘Like A Drum’. Facety 2:11′ is an absolutely stunning single. Four Tet provides the infectious stuttering, propelling beat, with Roots delivering rhyme upon rhyme in his trademark style for what is a wonky tune with a sort of off-kilter vibe. An outstanding return to the fold from Roots Manuva, he’s sounding re-invigorated and as vital as ever! Perhaps it’s a just a one off? Hopefully there is an album to come sometime soon but either way, welcome back, Roots.

‘Facety 2:11′ / ‘Like A Drum’ is out now. You can purchase it here & check out the single, below.

Roots Manuva – ‘Get The Get (Slugabed Remix)’

UK hip hop has been going through a fairly healthy patch recently, no better time to welcome the return one of it’s finest stalwarts, Roots Manuva.

He’s back with a new LP 4everevolution and single ‘Get The Get’. The single would be good enough on it’s own but Slugabed’s remix accompanying the release is superb – adding glitches and beats transforming this party tune into a hard-hitting dancefloor tune.

Get The Get is the first single from forthcoming 4everevolution LP which people are saying may be his best LP yet.

4everevolution and ‘Get The Get’ are out now on Big Dada / Banana Klan.

You forgot a username for the YouTube shortcode

As you may already know, ‘Watch Me Dance’ is the title track from Toddla T‘s forthcoming album which is out in August on Ninja Tune.

The track features the vocal prowess of Roots Manuva and is full of dancefloor grooves, funky basslines and electronic strut. Anyway, following unleashing ‘Watch Me Dance‘ on the public a few weeks back, T has just unveiled a brand spanking new video for the single.

Toddla T is probably the most featured artist on this blog, I promise no more until the release of his new album in August.

Toddla T – Watch Me Dance feat. Roots Manuva

Toddla T is preparing to release his second album Watch Me Dance this August. ‘Take It Back’ featuring Shola Ama and J2K not so long ago heralded the return of The ‘Boom DJ from the Steel City’.

His latest offering is ‘Watch Me Dance’. Not only does it feature the vocal talents of label mate Roots Manuva, but it originally began life as a Roots tune. It takes shape more as a collaboration between the two producers with startling results. ‘Watch Me Dance’ is full of dancefloor grooves, funky basslines and electronic strut, not to mention Roots’ vocal prowess.

The single features a wealth of tasty remixes from Sebastian, Andrew Weatherall, Heartbreak and SX, as well as the original Roots Manuva version of ‘Watch Me Dance’.
