Retro Kid – ‘Sweet Nothings (ft. BRN & Christiane)’

Copenhagen-based outfit Retro Kid have endeared themselves to us with a series of irresistible electronic productions over the past 18 months or so.

Preferring a place between indie-music-to-dance-to and electronica, stylistically their work brings to mind the likes of Caribou, Hot Chip and Mount Kimbie, and with latest single ‘Sweet Nothings’ Retro Kid repeat the trick. Featuring BRN & Christiane, ‘Sweet Nothings’ is an exquisite piece of indie-electronica that is somewhere between club land and chilled electronica. Propelled through the atmospheric haze by an infectious deep house groove, it moves with a glacial elegance amid an ever increasing winding intensity with murmuring synth, samples and succession of slick beats. Intense yet chilled, ‘Sweet Nothings’ is treated to one final coat of gloss by the graceful (and soulful) vocals of Luke Byrne and Christian & Christiane Karoline Kjærgaard.

Retro Kid – ‘Neon Colours’

Copenhagen-based outfit Retro Kid introduced themselves to us last summer with a series of irresistible electronic productions in the shape of their self-titled EP.

Retro Kid have kick off the new year with the great news that they intend to release their debut album Nordic Noir in 2018. And to get us in the mood, they have kindly afforded us a sneak-peak of what we can expect with lead single, ‘Neon Colours’. It is a really colourful track – neon bright in fact – imbued with a chipper disposition, bouncy vibe and peppered with blasts of brass. This colourful confection of synth splashed electro-pop is treated to one last – but certainly not least – coat of gloss by Christiane Kjærgaard’s gorgeous honeyed vocals. The icing on the cake really, Kjærgaard’s vocals bring it all home in exquisite fashion.

A sublime piece of infectious electro-pop that should have you, like me, salivating at the prospect of their debut album.

Give ‘Neon Colours a listen below – you won’t regret it.

Retro Kid – ‘Time Waster’ (feat. Emily Bolton)

Copenhagen outfit Retro Kid introduced themselves to us earlier this summer with a series of irresistible electronic productions in the shape of their self-titled EP.

Not content with that, Retro Kid have shared genre-hopping new single, ‘Time Waster’. It is an enticing blend of folk, pop and electronica, featuring the melodic vocal delights of Emily Bolton atop. Driven by busy, galloping beats which are joined in tandem by fat basslines and electro squelches, ‘Time Waster’ is anything but. The sweet melodies, bouts of breeziness, synthetic acid twists are joyful and playful, reminding us that Retro Kid are one of the finest new discoveries of summer 2017. Bright, sprightly and damn irresistible – ‘Time Waster’ – is all kinds of wonderful.

You can tune into ‘Time Waster’ (feat. Emily Bolton) above. You can check out their debut EP here.

Introducing: Retro Kid

Hailing from Copenhagen, Retro Kid serve us with some irresistible electronic productions.

Self-described as “electronic pop in a melancholy funk”; and that description isn’t wide of the mark. Swinging in a place between indie-music-to-dance-to and electronic vibes, their work brings to mind the likes of Caribou, Hot Chip and Mount Kimbie. Their self-titled track, lifted from Retro Kid’s debut EP of the same name, is a wonderfully hypnotic, seductive electronic gem. It flits between contrasting textures of heavy fuzzy bass and shimmering glints of luminescent synth, over layers of mild doses euphoria and deep-house feint. More upbeat and dance-floor ready, ‘Kool Kids’ repeats the trick. Hypnotic, euphoric and captivating it’s pièce de résistance is the alternating vocals from the deep delivery of Christian Larsen’s to the heavenly, airy breeze of Christiane Kjærgaard’s voice. Assured and confident, and delivered with precision; this quartet will have you heading straight for the repeat button.
