Velvet Morning – ‘You’re Blue, I’m Blue’ & Debut LP Released on June 30th

Velvet Morning_1

Hailing from the seaside town of Leigh-on-Sea in the UK, Velvet Morning largely revolves around the talents of 20 year old songwriter, Samuel Jones. Ably assisted by his three band mates, this foursome have carved out quite a niche when it comes to gorgeously smooth, undulating psychedelia.

After treating us with a series of stellar atmospheric psych rumblings, Velvet Morning will finally release their debut LP on June 30th, through RIP Records and EXAG Records. Entitled Gorilla, the first delectable taste from their forthcoming album is ‘You’re Blue, I’m Blue’. A gentle, blissed out swirl of atmospheric psychedelia, ‘You’re Blue, I’m Blue’ fuses a languid groove and mellow guitar with whispered, semi-audible vocals, for an unforgettable, nebulous yet intoxicating four-and-a-half-minutes of psychedelia. Sit back, relax, and allow yourself to be engulfed in the twangy, undulating lusciousness that is  ‘You’re Blue, I’m Blue’.

You can stream the new single from Velvet Morning below, and you can also pre-order their debut LP, Gorilla, here now.

Tame Impala – ‘Cause I’m A Man’

Everyone’s favorite Australian psychedelic band, Tame Impala will release the new LP, Currents on July 18th, following on from 2012’s Lonerism and their 2010 debut Innerspeaker.

Tame Impala have been steadily treating us to insights of the new record, having already released the tracks ‘Disciples’, ‘Eventually’ and ‘Let It Happen’, they continue to drip feed us with food for thought with new single ”Cause I’m A Man’. The first official single from their forthcoming third album, ”Cause I’m A Man’ is a synth-heavy ballad that just goes down ever so easy. Everything is so silky smooth, as a slinking, free-flowing groove combines with sumptuous splashes of synth to mingle with Parker’s tender vocals, adding to the vulnerable nature of the song, one tinged with regret, yet sentimental affection. Accompanying the new single is a slick and visually impressive animated video directed by LA based Weirdcore (Aphex Twin, Horrors, Simian Mobile Disco).

Tame Impala are currently in the midst of a massive North American tour and play Vancouver’s Malkin Bowl tonight. For those of you back in Ireland of course, they play Electric Picnic this year too. The new LP, Currents is out on July 18th. Check out ”Cause I’m A Man’ below.

Heaters – ‘Mean Green’

Heaters are Michigan based trio – Andrew Tamlyn, Nolan Krebs and Joshua Korf – who’s thing, so to speak, is loud, raw and highly addictive psych-meets-surf, rock ‘n roll.

To date they already have a handful of homespun EPs and split records to their name but have teamed up with Brooklyn-based psych label ‘Beyond Beyond is Beyond’ Records to release a 7” single, as well an expected debut LP. The 7″ is comprised of two tracks, ‘Mean Green’ and backed with ‘Levitate Thigh’. ‘Mean Green’ is a fast and furious, full-blooded and aggressive, fuzzy, distortion fueled wall of sound, that marks out the band’s intent and kicking the proverbial arse. ‘Levitate Thigh’ meanwhile, opens with a stuttering slow-rolling tempo before settling into a scuzzy, rock n roll groove, of snarling guitar, feedback and drums. If it’s groovy, surf-centric slabs of sonic stomp you’re after, look no further. Heaters are your new best friends.

You can check out ‘Mean Green’ &’Levitate Thigh’ below. The 7″ is out now & available from here.

Foreign/National – ‘The Hedonist’

foreignnational-2015

Melbourne five piece Foreign/National are back with a super new single, entitled ‘The Hedonist’.

Created in collaboration with Joey Walker (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), it is grounded in the wonderfully colourful, sun-soaked and irresistibly warped aesthetic which marked their earlier work. Echo-y vocals, mildly distorted guitars, nifty percussive work and splotches of superb organ playing spill over for a fun, supremely engaging modern psych-pop tune, that will keep you grooving right along. A blissful, melody-filled and transportive slice of sun-tinged psychedelic pop music, somewhere between Jagwar Ma, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s and The Bees circa 2007 – things are more than alright.

You can pick up ‘The Hedonist’ here and there are rumours that a debut album and shows worldwide on the horizon. For now, check their latest single below.
