Having recently re-branded from Pankhabilli to Fauna Twin, the duo of Parisian singer-songwriter Claire Jacquemard & Hippies vs Ghosts‘ Owain Ginsberg introduced their new moniker with a sublime single, ‘Water on Mars’.

As with their previous output, their latest musical endeavour is deserving of great praise. A dark pulsating synth alt-pop track that unfolds with a brooding atmosphere and eerie sense of forbidding. Growing at pace, on the back intoxicating rhythm and some darker tribal beats, which conspire with Jacquemard’s gripping vocals, to leave a truly indelible mark. Accompanying the single is their first and excellently shot and crafted video, which only accentuates the vibe of track. A superb debut single, with an excellent first video to boot. Lot’s to look forward to from this talented duo.

‘Water on Mars’ is released on May 6th through Crammed Discs, with an EP to follow this autumn. For now? Check out ‘Water on Mars’ below:

PANKHABILLI – ‘Edge Of The Coin’

11998812_473410819495234_2125066680836037365_n

Very fine news greets us today, Wales based duo PANKHABILLI – Parisian singer-songwriter Claire Jacquemard & Hippies vs Ghosts‘ Owain Ginsberg – have put the finishing touches to a debut EP.

The pair have already endeared themselves with a series of sublime singles, a la ‘Come Around’, ‘Water on Mars’ and ‘The Ladder’, and PANKHABILLI have marked this auspicious occasion in the best way possible, sharing new single ‘Edge of The Coin’. It retains a flair for the epic and dramatic, as has been the case with Jacquemard’s efforts thus far. The dramatic, chilling opening thaws gradually to reveal a playfully energised blitz of beats, synth and percussion, cut through the atmospheric textures with an uncontrollable sonic groove. With Jacquemard’s crisp vocals soaring high above, it all builds and bubbles toward a rousing climax bristling with vitality, and one that’ll have you reaching straight for the repeat button. PANKHABILLI has been one of the most interesting new talents to pass the metaphorical BarryGruff desk, and it’s a fine way to sign off on an excellent year.

No word on when we can expect the release of the EP but for now you can check out ‘Edge of The Coin’ below, along with the previous tracks here.

PANKHABILLI – ‘Come Around’

Last month we were introduced to sublime sounds of PANKHABILLI, the wonderful collaboration between North Wales based, Parisian singer-songwriter Claire Jacquemard and We//Are//Animal & Hippies vs Ghosts‘ Owain Ginsberg.

The songs are composed by Jacquemard, arranged and produced by Ginsberg, together this enigmatic pairing has all the early signs of something rather special indeed.  We haven’t been kept in the dark for too long thankfully, as PANKHABILLI make a speedy return with new single ‘Come Around’. A bliss-rock stunner, ‘Come Around’ unfurls slowly, introducing itself through an intoxicating mist of swirling, atmospheric textures, heavenly strings and harmonies, forming around Jacquemard’s marvelously soothing vocals. Amid the rapturous ambience, mildly psychedelic and shoegazy touches merge and mingle with a gentle guitar jangle, before climaxing with some baggy/ravey percussion. ‘Come Around’ confirms what the previous two singles, ‘Water on Mars’ and ‘The Ladder’ suggested; PANKHABILLI are an extremely exciting and promising proposition. One to keep an eye on for sure.

The duo are rumoured to be releasing a debut EP very soon but for now, you can check out ‘Come Around’ below.

Introducing: Pankhabilli

PANKHABILLI

Pankhabilli is a collaboration between North Wales based, Parisian singer-songwriter Claire Jacquemard and We//Are//Animal & Hippies vs Ghosts‘ musical virtuoso, Owain Ginsberg.

The songs are composed by Jacquemard, arranged and produced by Ginsberg and together this enigmatic duo have created a thing of dark and intriguing beauty. This is music to get lost in. There’s a magnetism to it that draws you in, like a good story, the music is both powerful and intimate. So far we’ve been afforded ‘Water on Mars’ and ‘The Ladder’; two dark, brooding and enthralling examples of what this union has to offer. The latest of the two, ‘The Ladder’, is simply stunning. Unfolding with a dark and eerie sense of forbidding, driving tribal percussion conspire with menacing piano chords, setting the scene for Jacquemard’s gripping vocals to leave an indelible mark. Delivered with stellar precision, it is wonderfully rich yet chilling, and highly-charged with raw, powerful emotion. An impressive introduction indeed.

Pankhabilli are currently putting the finishing touches to an EP, penned for release toward the end June, it will feature both ‘Water on Mars’ and ‘The Ladder’, alongside as-yet-unheard others. For now, you can sample the chilling delights that are ‘Water on Mars’ & ‘The Ladder’.
