Maddie Jay – ‘Shakes’

Maddie Jay is a Canadian musician, bassist, producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist with a penchant for jangle pop, experimental music and synthesizers.

Having grown up in the relative wilderness of the small mountain town of Smithers, British Columbia, Jay traded that for Los Angeles, where she now resides, and creates lush, lavish and addicting sounds in her bedroom studio. Jay continues her propensity for hypnotising pop brilliance with sublime new single ‘Shakes’. It takes its place alongside previous dream-pop gems – ‘Little Love’, ‘I Got You’ & ‘The Peanut Butter Song’ – to form the basis of her debut EP, Mood Swings. It is another brilliant bundle of dream-pop heaven as it opens with a bright, infectious riff and hazy jangle while Jay’s laid-back and breezy vocals float melodically above as a soft beat bubbles below amid rippling waves of shimmering synths. It is woozy, infectious and undeniably pure pop perfection – just what we’ve come to expect from Maddie Jay.

Listen to ‘Shakes’ below – the Mood Swings EP is here too.

Maddie Jay – ‘The Peanut Butter Song’

Maddie Jay is a Canadian musician, bassist, producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist with a penchant for jangle pop, experimental music, synthesizers and sloths.

Having grown up in the relative wilderness of the small mountain town of Smithers, British Columbia, Jay traded that for the warmer climes of Los Angeles, where she now resides, crafting lush and lavish sounds in her bedroom studio.

Jay introduced herself to us last year with ‘Little Love’ & ‘I Got You’ – a pair of hypnotising dream-pop gems – and she has returned with her first offering from 2020 with ‘The Peanut Butter Song’. It is another delicious bundle of suitably lush and woozy wonderment. An alluring blend of slinky grooves and hazy tones, ‘The Peanut Butter Song’ shuffles gracefully over a softly rippling wave of shimmering synths that cascade over a twinkling guitar and soft pillowy beat. Jay’s laid-back and breezy vocals are perfectly paired with the hazy dream-pop sounds.

Maddie Jay is a Canadian musician, bassist, producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist with a penchant for jangle pop, experimental music, synthesizers and sloths.

Having grown up in the relative wilderness of the small mountain town of Smithers, British Columbia, Jay traded that for the warmer climes of Los Angeles, where she now spends her days making music in her bedroom studio. Jay’s latest single ‘Little Love’ is an absolute treasure; a warm, layered and laid-back patchwork of rich, technicolor sounds. It slowly slinks along, from a gentle whirlpool of shimmering and lush dream-pop origins, it remains steadfastly chilled and tranquil. Dripping with melody, ‘Little Love’s neon glow sprouts from an irresistible soft wave of hypnotising synths, slinky grooves, shimmering tones and frazzled electronics. This beguiling, textured haze of dreaminess shifts seductively, as subtle as shifting sands, providing a perfect backdrop for Jay’s soothing vocals. A lavish composition, one of breathtaking beauty, it will have you utterly transfixed, powerless under its spell.
