Kelly Lee Owens Announces Debut Album, Shares Lead Single ‘Anx’ with Jenny Hval

kelly lee owens 2017

Kelly Lee Owens is someone who has been on our radar for some time, with her affecting and continually brilliant creations oscillating somewhere between the avant-garde, pop, techno and almost everything in between.

Needless to say, news that the Welsh-born, London-based artist’s self-titled debut album shall be released on March 24th, is a rather big and exciting deal. Alongside this auspicious news, is entrancing lead single ‘Anx’, featuring Jenny Hval on vocals. This is club music slowed to a slither, with murky electronics, ambient synths, melodic groove and muffled, echoing pulses of bass and broached by Hval’s echoing, ghostly vocals, cascading in an entrancing hypnotic haze. Divine.

Kelly Lee Owen’s self-titled debut is out via Smalltown Supersound on March 24th. You can check ‘Anx’ out below.

Kelly Lee Owens – ‘CBM’

In the select few songs released thus far, singer and producer Kelly Lee Owens has proven remarkably versatile and increasingly difficult to pigeonhole. Having oscillated somewhere between the avant-garde, pop, techno and almost everything in between, Owens’ is at it again with new single ‘CBM’.

The lead single from her forthcoming EP, Oleic, ‘CBM’ (or ‘Colours, Beauty, Motion’) hits a sweet spot between the two extremes of her music. Nestled somewhere between pop and techno, she infuses insistent, throbbing electronics with sumptuously textured atmospherics, as lush as she has produced to date. A magnificent and mesmerising return showcasing Owens’ impressive talent and versatility; on a side note, she is one of the most exciting, rising musical propositions out there.

Kelly Lee Owens will release her new EP, Oleic, on October 21 through Smalltown Supersound. Ahead of that, why not check out its lead single ‘CBM’ below.

Kelly Lee Owens – ‘1 Of 3’

Kelly Lee Owens by Daniele Fummo

London-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Kelly Lee Owens has left quite a mark since debuting her own solo work last year – and long may her rising rep continue.

This week Kelly Lee Owens has shared her sublime new single called ‘1 of 3′. A song about empowerment, it is a moody, murky electronic pop number that nestles nicely, somewhere between pop and techno. It emerges from its ethereal origins like sunrise at dawn, imbued with an eerie mystique, which parts, making way of the squelching synths and acid-tinged electronics to kick in – and Lee Owens’ exquisite vocal is outstanding throughout. A splendid, and wholly unique return, showcasing her impressive talent and versatility. It also serves as a taster of what’s to be expected from her highly anticipated debut album.

No firm date on that debut album but you can check out ‘1 Of 3’ below, and we’ll keep you posted on the album.

BarryGruff’s July 2015 playlist

BGJL15

A now regular monthly feature, whereby we round up all the blog action with a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured during the month.

July was pretty ace! We had new tunes from The School, The Stammer and DRINKS ahead of their respective, forthcoming new albums, and the return of WE//ARE//ANIMAL. There were excellent new singles from Neon Wolf, Galants, Lethal Dialect, Manor, Kelly Lee Owens, The Expert, Glass Sines and Koloto.

Also featured on this month’s playlist are great tracks from Bedbugs, Effin, Gwenno, Trails and Ways, Open Window and Joan. So, July was pretty good. And that’s all before mentioning that Justin Beats gave Jamie xx’s new record In Colour, the once over, Johnny Feeney reported from Knockanstockan and we had a chat with Trails and Ways. And the small matter of my albums of the year so far list.

Kelly Lee Owens – ‘Uncertain’

Kelly Lee Owens may be an unfamiliar name, but her voice should be recognisable, especially fans of Daniel Avery and Ghost Culture, having collaborated with both on their excellent, recent records.

However, the London producer and vocalist is carving out a rising reputation in her own right. Earlier this year Owens released a two track single ‘Lucid/Arthur’ and at the end of July, she is releasing ‘Uncertain’ paired with a club reworking of the aforementioned ‘Lucid’. ‘Uncertain’ is a haunting piece of gothic pop. Filled with swirling textures and atmospherics, an ominous bassline and sweeping orchestral string arrangements conspire to create an otherworldly backdrop for Owens’ ethereal vocals to mesmerise and enchant in equal measure. Murky, chilling and foreboding but equally, it is utterly beautiful.

Owens second EP, Uncertain is released on July 31st. You can listen to ‘Uncertain’ and a snippet of the club reworked ‘Lucid’, below now.
