April was good, as was the weather but even better tunes and whatnot (although I was pretty busy with matters away from the blog). We had tracks courtesy of Amber Arcade, FFUG, SALES, Holy Fuck and Foreign/National from their respective, new and forthcoming albums. We had introductions to Supermoon and OMALOMA, while there were excellent new singles/EPs from Colleen Green, L.A. Witch, Koloto, Peaness, The Orange Kyte, Estrons and Pavel. Oh, and there were two new episodes of ‘Millions Like Us’, Justin Beats & I’s music podcast for 604now (if you missed them, check ’em here). Podcast #14 Tracklist:

Holy Fuck – ‘Xed Eyes’

holyfuck_1240

Canadian electronic maestros Holy Fuck announced a new album called Congrats, their first in six years, which will be released on May 27th.

We’ve already had ‘Tom Tom’, a beast of a tune by any measure, and now they’ve shared ‘Xed Eyes’. The Toronto foursome continue their blinding form with this blistering, big and noisy psychedelic dance-rock banger. It is the kind of thing we’ve come to expect from Holy Fuck, making the dark and experimental, danceable. ‘Xed Eyes’ is fuzzy, scratchy, distorted, serrated, jagged and somewhat jarring mix of noise, with percussion mechanical and precise, cutting through the breezy, psychedelic textured sound. The more you listen, the better it gets. Not that it was required but the levels of anticipation have been raised a few notches.

Congrats is out on May 27th via Innovative Leisure. Check ‘Xed Eyes’ below:

Holy Fuck are playing Levitation Festival in Vancouver on June 17th, @ The Rickshaw.

Holy Fuck Return With New Album ‘Congrats’, Share ‘Tom Tom’

holyfuck

After a number of teasers, Toronto’s Holy Fuck finally announced a brand new album. Entitled Congrats, it’s out on May 27th and marks the band’s first release since 2010’s Latin.

While May and it’s sun-basked days may feel like an eternity away, the Toronto quartet have kindly shared the record’s lead single, ‘Tom Tom’. The track is a fuzzy piece of scratchy, distorted, chugging, crunching and thumping experimentation. It is a no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners, we-mean-business, signal of intent. A hell of a way to remind us all of how magnificent Holy Fuck can be, and why a close to six year absence is simply far, far too long. A monster of a tune. Holy Fuck indeed.

Congrats is out on May 27th through Innovative Leisure. Ahead of all that, there’s the colossus that is ‘Tom Tom’, to keep things ticking over very nicely. Turn it up LOUD!
