Philadelphia-based Irish duo Games Violet – aka Alexander Games and Emma Violet – will be releasing their debut album Tragic Milkshake next month.

Together in their home studio, the pair write, perform, record and produce ‘surrealist pop’. Games Violet have a real flair for fascinating, surrealist and experimental pop, littered with imaginative ideas, unique sounds and a haunting demeanour. Their latest single and album taster ‘Tin Box’, is very much in keeping with this and it is another imaginative, left-field sound collage of fascinating pop oddity. Finding a space on the shadows, where peaceful beauty and chilling can simultaneously co-exist, ‘Tin Box’ is unsettling and spooky yet mesmerising and enchanting in equal measure. If one is to go by what they have done thus far, Games Violet have delivered more than their fair share of the murky, chilling and foreboding but equally, there are utterly beautiful and spectacular moments too; their debut album promises much.

Games Violet’s debut LP Tragic Milkshake will be released on November 15th. For now, listen to ‘Tin Box’ below:

BGMR

Your regular monthly round up all the blog action, in a nice, neat and handy playlist of tracks featured throughout the month.

March was good, as was the weather but even better tunes and whatnot. We had tracks courtesy of Helen Love, Teleman, Weird Dreams and Kelly Lee Owens  from their respective, new and forthcoming albums. We had introductions to Estrons, Hannah Lou Clark, Deep Sea Diver, Games Violet, Pavel and Eoin Dolan, while there were excellent new singles/EPs from Bousada, Anderson, Junior Bill, Silverbacks, Slow Riot, Boxed In and David Harks. Oh, and there were two new episodes of ‘Millions Like Us’, Justin Beats & I’s new music podcast extravaganza for 604now (if you missed them, check ’em here). You can also subscribe to ‘Millions Like Us’ on iTunes & Podcast Republic or find us on Facebook & Twitter.

Introducing: Games Violet

Games Violet is the Philadelphia-based Irish duo of Alexander Games and Emma Violet. Together the pair write, perform, record and produce ‘surrealist pop’ music in their home studio.

Originally from Dublin, they have just released their debut EP Nixie, into the world. Nixie is an elegant excursion into Games Violet’s surrealist and experimental world, littered with imaginative ideas and unique sounds. Otherworldly and eerily atmospheric recent single ‘Courtship’ demonstrates their raison d’etre, as it slips between beautiful and unsettlingly haunting. ‘Nixie’ is a similarly haunting piece of gothic pop that traverses an ominous mix of downtempo textures and atmospherics to remain peaceful yet simultaneously chilling. Closer ‘Gone’, is a downright unsettling and spooky, groove-driven wonky-pop. One other constant throughout is Violet’s ethereal vocals, which mesmerise and enchant in equal measure. Games Violet deliver more than their fair share of murky, chilling and foreboding qualities, but equally, there are utterly beautiful and spectacular moments too.

You can check out some choice cuts from Games Violet below and if they are to your liking, you can get at their debut EP Nixie, here.
