Air Devi – ‘Move Without Place’

Air Devi is the project of Philadelphia singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Devi Majeske.

The project began life as home recorded lo-fi indie pop before releasing debut EP, swanning about, earlier this year. Majeske has followed that up with a brand new single called ‘Move Without Place’. A song about a search for freedom, truth, and belonging. Inspired by a desire to understand and connect with her Indian roots, ‘Move Without Place’ blends a love of punk rock music alongside her Indian heritage into a colourful confection of woozy, starry-eyed dream-pop. Hazy distorted guitars pair with melody dripping vocals above light, bright but quick-paced percussion that brushes through a swirling cloud of hazy and magical charm. It is bright, lush and shimmering delight filled with whimsical charm as it gently see-saws between woozy pop, psych brushstrokes and flourishes of intoxicating Indian sound. It is a richly rewarding and utterly divine single.

Listen to ‘Move Without Place’ below – you won’t be disappointed.

Cate Von Csoke – ‘Dream Around’

Cat Von Csoke is an Australian-born, Brooklyn-based musician and songwriter with a flair for cinematic, ethereal, and transfixing psych flavoured soundscapes.

Von Csoke is gearing up to release a new LP, Almoon, on June 5, and ahead of which, she has shared ‘Dream Around’. Adorned with all the aforementioned attributes, ‘Dream Around’ whisks us away on a woozy waltz through a sun-drenched haze awash with layers of warm fuzz and distortion. Anchored by dark, hypnotic and reverb-laden vocals and intriguing lyricism, slumbering melodies undulate amid a nonchalant air as guitars purr and jangle, rich with melodic allure and swelling emotion. It is a mesmerizing slice of evocative, ethereal and sun-drenched musings – utterly divine.

Listen to ‘Dream Around’ below – the new LP is out on June 5.

CIEL – ‘Same Old Times With U’

CIEL are Brighton-based, Dutch dream-pop trio fronted by Michelle Hindriks (also of Sväva).

Together, the trio concoct a heady brew of starry-eyed dream pop with shoegaze, psych and indie brushstrokes – demonstrated exquisitely by new single ‘Same Old Times With U’. Lifted from the forthcoming debut Movement EP, it is less uptempo than its predecessor ‘Days’ but chock full of lush guitars, soft vocals and dreamy synths. Drifting gracefully along with an otherworldly charm and marked by an air melancholy and nostalgia, as Hindriks’ stunning voice takes centre stage and carries the song forward while guitars jangle amid a woozy wonderland below.

Another sumptuous single from their debut EP which is out now. Listen to ‘Same Old Times With U’ below:

Many Voices Speak – ‘Want It Kept’

Sweden’s Many Voices Speak – aka Matilda Mård – has a real knack for beautiful slumbering whispers of lush dream pop; something offered in abundance on 2018 debut Tank Town.

The good news is that Mård is back in action with a new single called ‘Want It Kept’, and it is divine. The master of misty-eyed, melancholic and hazy indie, Mård opens with a slowly swirling, shapeless mist that seeps forward engulfing her sad but elegant and beautiful vocals as they hover above slowly waltzing groove and undulating melodic bubble. Delicate, dreamy and truly beautiful, ‘Want It Kept’ will have you transfixed with its beguiling beauty and smouldering emotive draw.

HUSSY – ‘YLMD’

Originally from the North East of England, HUSSY is the moniker of South London-based dream pop purveyor Sophie Nicole Ellison, a multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist with a knack for deep and textured songs, layering fuzzy guitars to create spellbinding soundscapes.

To date, this predilection and skill has been on show with singles ‘Forever’, ‘Playtime’ and ‘Slayer’ and HUSSY is back with a new track ‘YLMD’. It is harder, rockier and more thrilling than previous singles while retaining continuity in the dreamy stakes. Opening with driving guitar work, energetic percussion and Ellison’s own clear, glacial tones, it explodes out of the speakers grabbing your attention from the off. First and foremost ‘YLMD’ is a powerful, rousing and thrilling anthem but it also showcases Ellison’s brilliant ear for melodies, but interspersing them with massive drums, jangley guitars and covered with layers of warm fuzz and distortion, and a lingering sense of melancholy. A self-empowered love letter to herself; it is a massive tune, bristling with energy and emotion amid the sparkling haze.

MIYNT – ‘Vacation With Bond In South Of France Part 2’

A few years back, Stockholm artist MIYNT was carving out a name for lush, smooth pop music with a preference for orchestral flourish.

While quiet for sometime, MIYNT has broken radio silence with aplomb, serving us a gloriously rich and sultry slice of ‘riviera pop’ in the shape of Vacation With Bond In South Of France Part 2′. It is a smooth, stylish and suave theme for an imaginary Bond movie that slinks and struts on the back of groovy beats and funky guitar through a shimmering haze of swirling psych-textures and lush flourishes of grandiose orchestral pop. ‘Vacation With Bond In South Of France Part 2’ is lavish, sultry and smooth orchestral pop that will leave you all the better for letting it into your life.

Heavy Heart – ‘Dowsabel’

Hot on the heels of sublime single, ‘Bed Bug’, released only recently, London outfit Heavy Heart have followed it up with an equally transfixing affair with ‘Dowsabel’.

Heavy Heart – comprised of Anna Vincent (lead vocals, guitar), Patrick Fitzroy (guitar, backing vocals), James Vincent (guitar, backing vocals) and Craig Brown (drums) – started as a lo-fi, bedroom project in a tiny flat above the main road in New Cross, south London, a few years back but has grown and flourished to yield some marvellous results – ‘Dowsabel’ is a case in point. ‘Dowsabel’ is an old English word for sweetheart, and this song is about a love affair, and graced by a mournful air. Sombre strings introduce the lament, as layers of glistening guitar tones and solemn basslines intertwine to create a dreamy tapestry tempered with sadness and loss. A heady and potent mix that is fragile yet powerful, melancholic but determined and altogether triumphant.

‘Dowsabel’ is the second of three tracks mixed and co-produced by Gabe Wax (The War On Drugs, Fleet Foxes and Soccer Mommy) which will form the basis of a new EP that is expected this spring.

Mesa Luna, the one-man dream-pop project of multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, Justice McLellan is preparing to release debut LP Lash on March 22.

Last we encountered the Vancouver artist was with blissful and shimmering synth-filled lead single ‘Dispel’, and McLellan is back with another taste of the forthcoming record in the shape of ‘Woronoco’. It is a blissed-out, majestic and heavenly slice of shoegaze indebted dream-pop that is equally beautiful and affecting. With ‘Woronoco’, Mesa Luna weaves atmospheric textures, glacial elegance, shimmering electronics, reverberating synth, slowburning guitars, yearning emotion and hushed heartfelt vocals together to create a song that is delicate and pristine yet simultaneously powerful and a compelling wall of noise. Yet another exquisite and emphatic track from Vancouver; things are looking rather well for the album on March 2.
