Phoenix 48 Radiothon: 2 Hours w/ BarryGruff + The Boozey Swine

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100

A few weeks back, myself and The Boozey Swine, sandwich maker to the stars, took to the airwaves as part of Phoenix FM‘s 48 hour Radiothon.

The Radiothon was to raise funds for the station and to support the continued work it does in the Dublin 15 community, and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of. It was pretty nerve racking but after Boozey said a few prayers to the patron saint of radio, Larry Gogan, we we’re on our way and it was loads of fun. Sure what’s more enjoyable than taking over a studio to play loads of your favourite music? You can listen to the full two hour show in all it’s glory below and the tracklist is after the jump. We’d quite like to do something similar in the future but we shall see, maybe those prayers Boozey was rattling off will come through for us.

Before that, a massive thanks to Boozey for being part of the show, and everyone who donated a few quid and all the sound people at Phoenix FM, we thank you. Enjoy!

Cate Le Bon – ‘He’s Leaving’

Cate Le Bon

Welsh songstress Cate Le Bon has released new track, ‘He’s Leaving’, as a sort of thank you to fans after she wrapped up her touring duties during the week.

Previously unreleased, ‘He’s Leaving’ was recorded during the Mug Museum album sessions in LA and it’s hardly surprising to find some of the album’s sparkle has rubbed onto this track. As with Mug Museum, there is a sparseness to ‘He’s Leaving’, along with a cool, controlled confidence that showcases her knack for the wonderfully weird and surreal. Incredibly bittersweet, it is etched with a mournfulness as her quivering Welsh accent gently gives added life to the most touching lyrics. It is bestowed with all the wondrous majestic brilliance that made her last album an utterly bewitching, beguiling and beautiful record.

You can stream / download ‘He’s Leaving’. Cate Le Bon’s latest LP Mug Museum was released late last year and it comes highly, highly recommended. If you’re in the UK, you’re in luck as she has announced a slew of tour dates for later in 2014, see here.

I’ve definitely been late to the game in unearthing the delectable talents of Cate Le Bon, but over the past few months, I’ve been getting acquainted with her rather impressive back-cataloge.

Right, back to the here and now. The Welsh singer/songwriter has announced she will release her third full-length album Mug Museum, in November. Ahead of the new LP, Le Bon has served us up with a tasty treat. Taken from the aforementioned LP, ‘I Think I Knew’, is a beautiful duet with Perfume Genius. It’s a softly sweeping and emotive duet of mournful tones and fragility, accompanied by lush and dreamy orchestrated instrumentation. As far as tasters goes, it works. I’m sold, it’s just so beautiful.

Mug Museum is released on November 11th. You can download/stream ‘I Think I Knew’ (Feat. Perfume Genius) while you wait.
