Candice Gordon Announces Debut Album; Shares ‘Nobody’

Berlin-based, Dublin-raised Candice Gordon is set to release her debut full length album Garden of Beasts on the 9th of September 2017 via Proper Octopus Records.

Gordon has featured on here numerous times over the years, with a series of glorious gothic-tinged singles and EPs, so it’s great to learn that an album is finally ready for release. Garden of Beasts is produced by labelmate A.S. Fanning, and mixed by Ingo Krauss (Swans, Iggy and the Stooges), and preceded by ‘Nobody’. The album is inspired by moving to Berlin and observing the very dark and heavy history that is visible and inescapable everywhere in the city, and as such, it is now surprise that the lead single is a gloriously gothic-tinged thunderbolt of punk and garage. With a stomping rhythm, ‘Nobody’ explores a richly dark sonic landscape, with which Gordon’s powerful voice routinely pierces in flourishes, continuously and potently driving the song’s momentum forward. Exceptional. We’ve been waiting for this album for quite sometime but so far, it looks like it has been worth the wait.

Tune in to ‘Nobody’ below & keep your eyes peeled for the LP in September.

Candice Gordon – ‘Before The Sunset Ends’

Having featured many times on the blog in the past, it’s great to hear Candice Gordon news that she has an EP due for release soon.

‘Before The Sunset Ends’ is the title track from the aforementioned forthcoming EP. It sees her unflappably sultry voice underpinned by a swelling horn section giving it a Gothic feel, or equally sounding like, as she says herself “straight out of an Ennio Morricone score.” Before The Sunset Ends is a six-track collection recorded with Shane MacGowan and will be released on May 6th. The title track suggests, as with previous singles, that she’s improving with each step – I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the EP in the near future.

Gordon has a host of live dates in the UK, Germany & Ireland including The Workman’s Club, Dublin on May 1st, Bourke’s Bar in Limerick on May 2nd and Monroe’s in Galway on May 5th.

Candice Gordon – ‘Cannibal Love’

The ever impressive Candice Gordon is back with her second single ‘Cannibal Love’, released on October 29th, aptly titled for Halloween.

‘Cannibal Love’ is delivered with her now signature snarl and growl as she shrieks through an electric tw0-minute-plus cacophony of saw-toothed guitar riffs, set to a frantic demon punk stomp. Gordon’s output this last twelve months has been impressive, with each release bettering the last. There is no indication of when an album is due, that said, if she keeps up this kind of form I’ll happily lap up the singles and wait for an LP.

‘Cannibal Love’ is released w/ b-side ‘I See A Demon’ on October 29th – check it and the Nigella meets bloody cannibal video below.

Candice Gordon has released a brand new video for her track ‘I Haven’t Eaten In Days’. The song featured as the B-side to her Rock ‘n Roll stomper, ‘Smoking Like The Barrel Of a Gun’, released back in July.

‘I Haven’t Eaten In Days’ exhibits a different side to her talents. It is a slow-burning, delicate, lamenting affair allowing her vocals to flicker amid a sea of twanging guitars and steady drums. It is a far cry from the ferocity of  ‘Smoking Like The Barrel Of a Gun’ but with no less real emotion.

The video self made in her flat in Berlin with Stephen Fanning and can be checked out below.

Candice Gordon is back with a brand new video for her latest single ‘Smoking Like The Barrel of a Gun’.

So, we’ve heard the track before but now we have the full sensory experience thanks to this Christian Koll directed video. The South African born, Irish songstress kicks up a hell of a storm, shrieking through an incredible explosion of stomping drumbeats and dirty rockin’ riffs, with more than a fair share of attitude and swagger.

‘Smoking like the Barrel of a Gun’ is out July 9th via Fauna Records.

Candice Gordon – Smoking Like The Barrel of a Gun

South African born, Irish songstress Candice Gordon is back with a brand new single ‘Smoking Like The Barrel of a Gun’.

‘Smoking Like The Barrel of a Gun’ is mouth wateringly rocking and filled with guts and grit. Her incredible vocals (and screeches) are imbued with soul and emotion, backed by sways of feedbacking guitars and pounding drums. Following on from ‘I See A Demon’ late last year, this is yet another impressive statement of intent.

‘Smoking like the Barrel of a Gun’ and b-side ‘I Haven’t Eaten In Days’, will be released on July 9th via Fauna Records, both of which you can listen to below.

Candice Gordon is a young songstress born in South Africa but now based in Ireland

She has a debut album, Before the Sunset Ends, recorded with Shane MacGowan and ready for release in 20112. If her latest single ‘I See A Demon’ is any kind of benchmark, it will be a mouth watering prospect. ‘I See A Demon’ is a captivating number as her vocals wistfully flicker through smokey world of  somber darkness, marvelous!
