Altvater – ‘This Pertains To Solitude’

Red w Rainbow

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, producer Altvater proved a reliable source of downtempo electronica at any given opportunity throughout 2018.

His fusion of cinematic electronica, trip hop, and dark synthwave is marked by an ability to blend colour and warmth to a glacial but imperious ambience, as evidenced by recent releases of the Walking Creatures EP, and singles ‘Moonbird’ and ‘Quietly, The Sea. Really’. Altvater’s latest single is the magnificent ‘This Pertains To Solitude’, ensuring 2019 is set to be of a similar ilk. Propelled along a tidy, steady drumbeat ‘This Pertains To Solitude’ is moody, emotive and pensive as it elegantly navigates its ways way through a cinematic, ambient atmosphere. Its mellow shroud never lifts, delicate keys, ambient sounds, chanting vocals and middle eastern touches only add to the pensive procession – a rich and textured one at that. A beautiful, calm and meditative track, and one that is rather easy-on-the-ear too.

Throughout 2018, producer Altvater proved a more than reliable source of downtempo electronica; a fusion of cinematic electronica, trip hop, and dark synthwave.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Altvater’s style is marked by an ability to blend colour and warmth to a glacial but imperious ambience, as evidenced by his Walking Creatures EP, and single ‘Moonbird’, and with the release of latest single ‘Quietly, The Sea. Really’, he is insuring he is finishing the year on a high note. Inspired by a picture his grandfather took in the Bahamas in the 80s; one of the sea in its calm, serene state and Altvater set about creating an instrumental interpretation. ‘Quietly, The Sea’ is a beautiful, smooth and chilled out slice of tranquil downtempo electronica. It flourishes with sultry piano and guitar arrangement, driven by a steady drums and seductive melody, all wrapped up by smooth saxophone lines and soulful vocal sample. ‘Quietly, The Sea’ is beautiful, calm and rather easy-on-the-ear while capturing how pensive and meditating the sea can be.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Altvater is an electronic music producer who’s downtempo jams are a fusion of electronica, trip hop, and dark synthwave.

Altvater’s style has shades of early techno sharing colour and warmth to a glacial but imperious ambiance, as evidenced by ‘Arcturus’; lifted from the Walking Creatures EP. It slinks along at its own pace, unhurried or bothered by anything else, hissing into life before the throbbing bass permeates the steady drive with a menacing air. This menace is punctured only by twinkles with a glacial aura and crystalline chimes, before the shiver of chilling ominousness returns, with spooky tones and squelches at every turn. Precise, pristine and pulsating – it is a spectacular introduction to Altvater.
