In the same week as 33 of their countrymen inched closer to safety from 700m below the surface, Chilean punk band Panico released their sixth album, Kick.
Out via seminal Scottish indie label Chemikal Underground, home to the Sluts of Trust, it was arduous task tracking it down but wholly worthwhile in the end. Their style and approach is an unusual and unpredictable mix of moody post-punk, funky ska rhythms and South American percussiveness. Definite flashes of Gang of Four, The Rapture and The Wedding Present on show here.
This is a healthy serving of off kilter, raw energetic and twisted post punk funk. Waste no time, give the grimy disco action of ‘Icon’ a spin now.
